2010 finalists for Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to the top five finalists for TPS Teacher of the Year. Here is a list of those that made the cut, chosen by their peers as the best of the best:

  • Penny Davis teaches sixth- through eighth-grade band at Clinton Middle School and assists with Webster High School's band program.
  • Hannah Diamond teaches ninth-grade English at East Central High School.
  • Naomi Poindexter teaches sixth-grade language arts at Edison Preparatory Middle School.
  • Carolyn Thomas teaches first grade at Peary Elementary.
  •  Kathleen Walker teaches fourth grade at Kendall-Whittier Elementary.

The five emerged from a field of 10 semifinalists. Here are the other five semifinalists.

  • Patty Jorgenson teaches seventh-grade World Geography at Carver Middle School.
  • Katera Meachem teaches sixth-grade math at KIPP Middle School.
  • Martin Nicholas teaches sixth-grade math at Byrd Middle School.
  • Abbie Waters teaches kindergarten at Eugene Field.
  • James Williams teaches fifth grade at Houston.

All of these finalists and semifinalists are outstanding representatives of the fine teachers impacting the lives of Tulsa's children every day. Winners will be announced during the district's annual employee banquet on April 23.
