Tulsa Public Schools and Sodexo Child Nutrition Services present the Farm to Market event for TPS elementary students. Students will experience different aspects of agriculture and how food gets to our table right here in Oklahoma.

The goal is to increase dairy, fruit and vegetable consumption by introducing farm fresh produce, a milking experience, and education on food's journey from the farm to a market. Students will learn how fruits and vegetables are grown and raised by Oklahoma farmers, how dairy farms work and the nutritional value of the foods.

The event will include:

  • The Southwest Dairy Farmers' Mobile Dairy Classroom with a live cow and milking demonstration, plus milk to enjoy provided by Borden Dairy of Oklahoma;
  • A fresh produce tasting and blender bicycles presented by Fresh Point Produce;
  • A visit from R&G Mobile Grocers, Tulsa's own traveling grocery store; and
  • A wooden cow for students to milk, and live chickens, ducks and goats for observation.

The event will take place on Friday, April 14 at the Ross Child Nutrition building, located at 8934 E. Latimer St. from 9:15-10:45 a.m. and 12:15-1:45 p.m. Students will also learn about plant parts and take home a starter vegetable plant in a biodegradable pot from Creekside Plants and Produce.
