Students at Memorial High School are hard at work as they prepare to present the award-winning musical "Damn Yankees" on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22. The musical, based on the George Wallop novel, "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant," tells the story of a middle-aged baseball fanatic who trades his soul with the devil for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees.
"Our students are incredibly excited to be presenting this classic here at Memorial," said Director of Vocal Music Kevin Pearson. "In our fifty-year tradition of producing musicals, we have performed Oklahoma!, The Music Man, and Once Upon a Mattress multiple times-but never have we had the chance to tell the classic story of Damn Yankees."
"Damn Yankees" will be performed in Call Hall at Memorial High School, 5840 S. Hudson Ave. on April 21-22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 dollars and will be available at the door.
