Students from Hale High School's Special Services program will participate in a special track and field day on Friday, May 5, 2017. The Special Moments Track and Field Day will bring together young athletes with special needs from Hale Junior High School, Hale High School, and Edison Preparatory School.

The track and field day allows students who may not be able to participate in the Special Olympics to take part in a similar competition. "I want students and families who are in that situation to have that 'special moment' with their child, and to have the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful," said Hale Special Services Administrator Kashannia Sedlack. Sedlack developed the idea to host the competition, and she hopes to see the event grow to all of the multiple disabilities and autism programs in the district.

The event will be staffed in part by Hale track and field students and by staff from the participating schools. Representatives from Bridges, Goodwill, Community Outreach, and the Tulsa Police Department will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information to parents and families. In addition, all competitors will receive a free t-shirt for the event and lunch. Ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd or participation will be presented at an awards ceremony at the end of the day.

The Special Moments Track and Field Day will be held Friday, May 5, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hale High School track and field facility located at 6960 E. 21st St. in Tulsa.
