Summer school seats are still available for Tulsa middle, junior high, and high school students who need to recover course credits to get back on track to graduate. The district is taking applications online at through Friday, June 2.

"What we know is that students who have earned a high school diploma can increase their annual earnings by nearly nine thousand dollars per year, they have lower unemployment rates, and access to a wider range of jobs," said Tulsa Public Schools Superintendent Deborah A. Gist. "We are encouraging our secondary students to take advantage of these summer credit recovery opportunities so that they can start the school year on track to graduate with their classmates."

Students in grades six through twelve can earn one semester of credits (.5 credit), while students in grades nine through twelve can earn an additional semester (1 credit total) with afternoon classes. Classes begin June 26 and run through July 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Parents may register their students online at or contact Claire Schroepfer at

Gist said: "When a student receives his or her high school diploma, they're doing more than just achieving one great milestone, they are changing the trajectory of their lives for the better. We hope that our students who are missing course credits will use the summer break to catch up before the start of the new school year."
