Tulsa high school students will be able to ride Tulsa Transit free of charge seven days a week during the second year of #TPSRides starting on August 1, 2017. #TPSRides is a partnership between Tulsa Public Schools and the Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority (MTTA) that allows high school students to ride Tulsa Transit for free with student ID.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, secondary school leaders from throughout the district met with MTTA Interim General Manager Debbie Ruggles to learn about program. Ruggles was joined by district Chief Information and Operations Officer Blaine Young, and Leslie Neal, program coordinator for Modus, a local non-profit working to remove the barriers to transportation so young people can access social, medical, and community services.

Ruggles said: "Tulsa Transit is excited to expand #TPSRides to allow 9th through 12th grade students to ride buses seven days a week for school, extracurricular activities, work, and other destinations in our city."

In the first year of the partnership, #TPSRides participation grew to 2,500 rides per week with service available from Monday through Friday. "Our students used #TPSRides 69,000 times during the 2016-2017 school year," said Young."We're confident that the program will only continue to grow, giving Tulsa students much-needed independence, mobility, and opportunities to get out and explore Tulsa."

In addition to a new mobile website that will allow riders to easily map routes to school, students can also learn about using public transportation through a brief how-to course offered by Modus. "We're glad to partner with Tulsa Public Schools and the MTTA to increase our impact and enable teens to access the city on their terms,"said Neal.
The second year of #TPSRides begins on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, and students can visit www.tulsaschools.org/TPSRides to map their route to school.
