Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) is a large and diverse urban district with a commitment to excellence by providing educational options to fit a number of learning styles.

TPS is the largest school district in northeast Oklahoma with 40,000 students and 6,800 employees. To serve this diverse student base, the district provides a number of educational options including:

TPS owns and operates the largest bus fleet in the state transporting more than 15,000 students daily.

Notable Accomplishments:

  • 2014 Henry Bellmon Sustainability Award for Positive Environmental Impact for its use of CNG Buses
  • One of eight districts in the US working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on the Empowering Effective Teachers Initiative
  • Recent School and Students Awards including:
    • Eisenhower Elementary - National Blue Ribbon School
    • Booker T. Washington and Edison Preparatory High Schools - Top 5 Most Challenging High Schools in Oklahoma by the Washington Post
    • Wallace Foundation $800,000 grant to assist in strengthening principal supervisors -- known as Instructional Leadership Directors (ILDs)
    • Oklahoma State Counseling Association OSCAR awards for accountability in school counseling  for Jones Elementary, Skelly and Mayo Elementary Schools
    • Gates Millennium Scholars Program – Ryan Pendleton and Hartley Russell, Edison Preparatory School
    • State Superintendent Awards for Arts Excellence – Six students from the District
    • 72 students designated as Oklahoma Academic Scholars by the State Board of Education
    • Three Tulsa Public Schools seniors were named to the 2014 Presidential Scholars Program - Edison Preparatory students Bradley Morrow and Kristina Scott and Booker T. Washington's Connor Swan
    • Edison Preparatory High School was selected to participate in the new Advanced Placement AP Capstone diploma program
    • The Booker T. Washington junior varsity academic team beat out seven teams to win a national tournament
    • The Eliot Elementary 5th grade Enrichment Thinking Center students finished first in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl
    • Booker T. Washington High School's Arel Rende repeated as national champion in United States Extemporaneous speaking
    • Memorial High School teacher Lane Matheson, was honored at the annual FIRST World Championship with the Woodie Flowers Award
    • Grissom Elementary gifted and talented teacher Lynnette Shouse was named Tulsa Public School's 2014 Teacher of the Year
    • Memorial High School's boys basketball team repeated as Class 5A state champions in 2014 -this is Memorial's sixth state title
    • East Central Lady Cardinals finished as runners-up in the 2014 Class 5A state basketball championship
    • Gil Cloud, Tulsa Public Schools director of athletics, was inducted into the 2014 Northeastern State University Athletics Hall of Fame
    • 2013 Administrator of the Year Award by the Oklahoma Association of Pupil Transportation
