Identify the basic system boot sequence and boot methods, including the steps to create an emergency boot disk with utilities installed for the operating system. Identify procedures for installing/adding a device, including loading, adding, and configuring device drivers, and required software. Identify procedures necessary to optimize the operating system and major operating system subsystems.

Rationale and Course Description
This course provides students the opportunity to gain experiences of microcomputer troubleshooting and repair techniques through hands-on applications. Students will gain knowledge of installations, configurations, upgrading, and the customer service skills required for the microcomputer repair industry. This course aligns with the objectives for the CompTIA A+ Certification exam and BrainBench.
How will students learn?
Computer repair will be taught through a variety of methods. Technicians often need to read technical material in the work environment, therefore, the student will be expected to read and interpret the text. Emphasis will be placed on learning industry terminology. Students will do hands-on labs and group projects as well as individual assignments. Instruction will include lecture, demonstration, and video. Instruction will also be given with the aid of an A+ certification instructional software.
Content Outline
Students will learn the basics of computer hardware, software, terminology, and repair that correlate to the A+ Certification exam and BrainBench testing.
How will students be assessed?
Student assessments will include grades from daily assignments, exams, and projects.
