Rationale and Course Description
This course will introduce students to a cluster of occupations related to the manufacturing trades. Students completing the course will gain knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas:
· Shop safety
· Tool use and identification
· Blue print reading
· Hydraulics And Pneumatics
How will students learn?
Students will be expected to meet all course goals listed below and be able to demonstrate their understanding of the underlying concepts. The instruction will be heavily laboratory and application based with complementing lecture and demonstration. Students will work in teams and independently to complete several projects that will require them to construct and trouble-shoot in a variety of situations. Assignments will require students to draw upon academic skills in mathematics, science and language arts.

Prepare and maintain the work site for a safe working environment before beginning maintenance or repair procedures.
Do a self-paced unit in precision measurement.
Gain basic skills on power equipment available in the lab.
Conduct independent research to identify the range of careers available in mechanics related fields, select a specific job and present findings on that job to the class.
Be able to identify potentially hazardous chemicals used in manufacturing related fields and explain the correct method of handling and disposal for those chemicals.
