Community Education What Is It?
Community
Education is:
A unique education concept that embraces these beliefs:
Education is a lifelong learning process.
Everyone in the community shares responsibility for the
education of all members of the community.
Education is all types of learning--hobbies, academic,
exercise--and can be fun.
Citizens have a right and responsibility to be involved
in determining community needs.
Citizens have a responsibility to share their
knowledge.
Community Education
is characterized by offering reasonably priced, high quality, lifelong
opportunities for professional growth for everyone in the community.
It is community members identifying what learning experiences they want or
need and the schools filling those needs. Programs including educational, recreational, and social activities allow
community members the use of school facilities to experience various
continuing educational classes for a fee.
The classes will typically be non-credit classes.
They are generally short in length, lasting from two
(2) to
nine (9) weeks.
The classes normally meet one (1) or two (2) nights per week
(Tuesday and/or Thursday).
Class sessions may be one (1) or two (2) hours in length.
Courses offered strive to meet the requests of citizens
of all ages and interests.
