Physical Education Pacing Calendar
1st Grade

Any 9 weeks section may be taught during any 9-week period.

1st Quarter

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
1.1 Demonstrates ability to move in various locomotor patterns (e.g., galloping, skipping, hopping, sliding).
1.2 Demonstrates the ability to move in various nonlocomotor patterns (e.g., bending, swaying, twisting).
1.3 Combines various movement skills and patterns to music, but not necessarily in time.
1.4 Demonstrates understanding by responding appropriately to the conceptual terms of over, under, behind, alongside, through.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.1 Understands the following components of health-related fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition, and cardiovascular endurance.
4.4 Experiences moderate to vigorous activity for short periods of time.

Standard 5: Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
5.1 Follows directions and demonstrates safety while participating in class activities.
5.2 Demonstrates safety skills while participating in physical activity with or without equipment or apparatus.
5.4 Follows directions while participating in class activity.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.1 Demonstrates respect for others in the learning environment.


2nd Quarter

Standard 2: Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
2.1 Demonstrates manipulative skills of throwing, catching, kicking, and jumping a swinging rope.
2.2 Uses different locomotor skills to move at different speeds, levels, and directions.
2.3 Demonstrates ability to travel forward, backward, and sideward without falling.
2.5 Understands evasive techniques (e.g., escaping, catching, dodging).

Standard 3: Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
3.1 Participates in a variety of individual and group fitness activities with moderate to vigorous physical exertion in and out of the school setting.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.6 Identifies proper and improper stretching techniques.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.3 Resolves conflicts with others in socially acceptable ways.

Standard 7:  Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
7.2 Tries new challenges and physical activities.


3rd Quarter

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
1.5 Rolls smoothly in a forward direction.
1.6 Performs a log roll without hesitating or stopping.

Standard 2: Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
2.1 Identifies elements of basic movement patterns.
2.4 Demonstrates ability to balance on a variety of body parts.

Standard 3: Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
3.3 Identifies physical activities that promote cardiovascular endurance.
3.5 Identifies physical activities that promote muscular strength.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.2 Recognizes changes in heart rate during physical activity.
4.3 Explains the function of the heart and lungs

Standard 5: Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
5.1 Identifies the benefits that accompany sportsmanship, cooperation, and following rules.
5.2 Understands the benefits that accompany sportsmanship, cooperation and following rules.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.2 Resolves conflicts with others in socially acceptable ways.


4th Quarter

Standard 3: Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
3.2 Identifies activities that provide pleasure and enjoyment through participation.
3.4 Identifies changes in the body during physical activity.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.1 Understands physical activities and their benefits for maintaining fitness and personal well-being.
4.2 Experiences and understands physical activity and the benefits for maintaining fitness and personal well-being.
4.5 Understands the following components of health-related fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition, and cardiovascular endurance.

Standard 5: Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
5.3 Demonstrates self-discipline and responsibility while actively participating in group, individual, and partner activities.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.2 Demonstrates cooperation without regard to personal differences.

Standard 7: Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
7.1 Enjoys participation in physical activity while alone or with others.
7.2 Identifies physical activities that allow for self-expression and enjoyment.
7.3 Shows willingness to try new challenges and activities.
7.4 Participates in a wide variety of physical activities that allow for self-expression.
