Physical Education Pacing Calendar
8th Grade

Any 9 weeks section may be taught during any 9-week period.

1st Quarter

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.
1.1 Demonstrates competence in modified versions of movement forms.

Standard 3: Exhibits a physically active lifestyle.
3.1 Understands and applies basic principles of training to improve physical fitness.
3.2 Establishes personal physical activity goals.
3.3 Participates daily in some form of health-enhancing physical activity.

Standard 5: Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
5.1 Recognizes the influence of peer pressure.

Standard 7: Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
7.1 Enjoys participation in physical activity.


2nd Quarter

Standard 2: Applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
2.1 Understands and applies more advanced movement and game strategies.
2.2 Understands and applies more advanced discipline-specific knowledge

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.1 Participates in a variety of health related fitness activities in both school and non-school settings.
4.2 Assesses physiological indicators of exercise during and after physical activity.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.2 Works cooperatively with a diverse group to achieve group goals in competitive as well as cooperative settings.


3rd Quarter

Standard 5: Demonstrates responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings.
5.2 Analyzes potential consequences when confronted with a behavior choice.
5.3 Solves problems by analyzing causes and potential solutions.

Standard 6: Demonstrates understanding and respect for differences among people in physical activity settings.
6.1 Recognizes the role of games, sports, and dance in modern culture.
6.3 Identifies behaviors that are supportive and inclusive in physical activity settings.

Standard 7: Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
7.4 Recognizes physical activity for self-expression.


4th Quarter

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
4.3 Begins independently to develop personal fitness goals.
4.4 Meets the health-related fitness standards as defined by Fitnessgram.

Standard 7: Understands that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction.
7.2 Recognizes the social benefits of participation in physical activity.
7.3 Tries new and challenging activities.
