Direct Instruction Workshops

These one hour
classes are intended for all teachers who have been using the SRA Direct
Instruction programs. Contact Cheryl Henry at 746-6307 for more
information about the SRA support group meetings. Please Note: Sessions
with enrollment below five participants will be cancelled 3 days prior to
the scheduled class.
All
participants must enroll on-line through Fulton Teaching and Learning
Academy Professional Development section of the TPS web-site. Enrollment
will not be accepted via telephone or e-mail. Thank you for your

Placement
Testing, Data Record Forms, & More |
|
This workshop will
provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of various placement tests and data record forms
utilized in the SRA Direct Instruction programs. Participants will
learn the basic information and skills needed to administer the tests for
the programs. Grouping of students and scheduling will also be
discussed. Teachers will actively participate in the informal
question and answer portion of this session. Refreshments and doors
prizes will be provided.

This interactive session
will provide teachers the opportunity to review and practice the sounds
and sound blending techniques that are utilized in the Reading Mastery and
Corrective Reading programs. Issues related to sounds, signals,
corrections, and pronunciations will be discussed. Participants will also
actively participate in the informal question and answer portion of the
session. Refreshments and doors prizes will be provided.

Corrective Reading, Decoding |
|
This workshop will
provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of the Corrective Reading programs. Issues
related to program design, teaching techniques, and motivational
strategies will be discussed. Lesson segments of elementary and secondary
students in actual classroom settings will be viewed during the session.
Teachers will actively participate in the informal question and answer
portion of the session. Refreshments and doors prizes will be provided.

Reading
Mastery |
This workshop will
provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of Reading Mastery, Reading Mastery Plus, and
Reading Mastery Fast Cycle. A complete lesson of elementary and secondary
students in actual classroom settings will be viewed during the session.
Issues related to program design, teaching techniques, signals, scripts,
and motivational strategies will be discussed. Teachers will actively
participate in the informal question and answer portion of this session.
Refreshments and doors prizes will be provided.

Advanced Training I |
|
Teachers will learn
advanced correction and firming techniques that will ensure a wider degree
of mastery for all students. Teachers will actively participate in the
informal question and answer portion of the session. Refreshments and
doors prizes will be provided.

SRA Advanced Training II |
|
Participants will develop
strategies for how to teach fluency at the single word level and the
sentence and story reading level. Teachers will learn to use fluency
building activities that teach students how to read with expression and
fluency. Teachers will actively participate in the informal question and
answer portion of the session. Refreshments and doors prizes will be
provided.

Corrective Reading,
Comprehension |
|
This workshop will
provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of the Thinking Basics and Comprehension Skills
(Levels B1 & B2) programs. Issues related to program design, teaching
techniques, and motivational strategies will be discussed. Teachers will
actively participate in the informal question and answer portion of the
session. Refreshments and doors prizes will be provided.

provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of the Connecting Math Concepts program. Issues
related to program design, teaching techniques, and motivational
strategies will be discussed. Teachers will actively participate in the

Corrective Mathematics |
|
This workshop will
provide participants support and technical assistance with the
implementation and usage of the Corrective Mathematics program. Issues
related to program design, teaching techniques, and motivational

SRA Advanced Training III |
|
Teachers will develop
effective and efficient work check procedures for the written work
components of the Direct Instruction programs. The independent work
section helps better monitor independent written assignments to increase
accuracy of all workbook and skill book activities. . Teachers will
actively participate in the informal question and answer portion of the
session. Refreshments and doors prizes will be provided.
