Schools Health Services
offers a variety of services which may include immunizations, vision and
hearing screening, general health/illness appraisals, and Workers’
Compensation. An example of these services can be seen in the 2004-2005
school year with Health Personnel screening 14,082 students for vision,
13,811 for hearing, with 213 students assisted with glasses. There were
approximately 469,198 student visits and 6,598 staff visits for
health/illness appraisals and assistance.
Our schools are
staffed with Health Assistants at the elementary level with supervision
and assistance by Registered Nurses (RN’s) who rotate. Middle Schools and
High Schools have RNs on site. All 60 Health Assistants and 35 School
Nurses are under the auspices of the Director of Health Services.
Health Services
also provides Nursing and Dental Hygiene clinical experiences for
Universities and Colleges, such as Langston University, The University of
Oklahoma, The University of Tulsa and Tulsa Community College, to name a
few.
Health partnerships
include agencies/institutions such as OU Bedlam, OU Pediatrics, Morton
Comprehensive Health Services, Tulsa City-County Health Department,
Oklahoma Blood Institute and American Red Cross, to name a few.
