ecosystems and interdependence literally come to life! With this inquiry-based
unit, students construct and observe their own terrestrial and aquatic
ecosystems, then connect the 2 systems into one to explore how they are
intertwined. Unit culminates with study of a much larger ecosystem—the
Chesapeake Bay watershed—as students learn about the bay's complex problems and
stage a mini-conference on the conflicting interests of the bay's diverse human
