TPS Receives H1N1 Vaccine

Board of Education Meeting Rescheduled
The Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education’s regular meeting, originally slated for Monday, December 21, has been rescheduled. The new date is Thursday, December 17, at 7 p.m.
District Officials Gauge the Progress of Learning Programs
Janice Roberts, a math educator at Whitney Middle School, teaches a Ramp Up course. The innovative program—it involves instruction in core skills, problem solving and concepts—is designed for students with math skills that lag several grade levels behind their peers.
Tulsa Teachers go back to Class
More than 100 dedicated Tulsa-area educators will gather this weekend to create local content and lessons for SMART Board interactive whiteboards. Over the past few years SMART Boards have become a staple in Oklahoma schools as educators using the product have witnessed improved student engagement, achievement, motivation and attendance.
TPS Considers Extended Learning Time
TPS considers implementing Extended Learning Time in three district schools. ELT is based on a model currently used in Massachusetts where educators volunteered to lengthen the school year by 300 hours.
Tulsa Council of PTAs Meet Nov 24
Tulsa Council of PTAs will meet on Tuesday, November 24 at 9:30. The meeting will be held in the Selman Room at the Education Service Center. The guest speaker will be Tulsa Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Ms. Trish Williams.
TPS Grapples with ‘Catastrophic’ Budget Cuts
Dr. Ballard reacted today to news that Oklahoma’s budget has again fallen well shy of earlier projections. Ballard said the district—which has already absorbed millions of dollars in budget cuts this year—is now preparing for a possible cut of 10 percent. (includes audio of the press conference)
District Students Selected to Choir
The Oklahoma Music Educators Association’s all-state choir has been selected and Tulsa Public Schools is represented by six students. They are: Emery Ernst, Madeline Lackey and Scott Soloman, Booker T. Washington; Betsy Hayes, Edison and Jonathan Davis and Sara Wiesman, Memorial.
