The Maytag Repairman may not have a lot of repair work to keep him occupied, but he still delivers! Big Brothers and Sisters of Oklahoma has arranged for the Maytag Man to deliver a brand-new Maytag washer and dryer to Tulsa Public Schools’ Kendall Whittier Elementary School. KW students and their Big Brothers and Sisters will arrive at about 9:30 a.m. and wait for the Maytag delivery truck (and famous Maytag Repairman) to pull into the drive with the school’s new, donated machines.

Why would Kendall Whittier students care about a washer and dryer? Principal Judy Feary says her students will benefit in many ways. “Many [KW families] do not have home phones and parents cannot be contacted to replace soiled clothing if accidents happen during the day. Other families don’t have access to laundry facilities on a regular basis,” Feary said. “If children have soiled clothing, we can wash it and they can return to class.”

Feary said Kendall Whittier’s staff also takes donations of clothing for garage sales and the school’s clothing bank. Often the clothes need to be laundered before they can be distributed or sold. The new, on-site Maytag equipment will save KW staff from having to haul laundry to and from home.
