Blame it on Tiger Woods. When Greg Robinson was still in elementary school his uncle took him to see Woods play at Southern Hills. A ball hit by Woods ended up rolling right next to Robinson. By the time the afternoon ended, Robinson had a new role model.

“He was young, black and doing something no one else did,” Robinson said. “I played basketball too, but everyone played basketball.”

Buoyed by his family, Robinson’s day usually began at the crack of dawn, getting up to hit the links. He attended Booker T. Washington, honing his game and academic credentials. While at Booker T., Robinson took a job skills class. His chosen profession? Golf instructor.

It all pays off July 10 at 10 a.m. when Robinson signs on to a full golf scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The public and media are invited to attend.

“It’s amazing,” Robinson says of his success.” It’s proof that hard work pays off.”

David FistFor decades, whenever Tulsa Public Schools was involved in legal affairs, David Fist was the go-to guy. Fist began as TPS’ main legal counsel in 1969, notably winning a landmark desegregation case for the district in 1970.

“He was a wonderful, perfect person,” said James Hoffmeister, Fist’s former colleague in the firm of Rosenstein Fist & Ringold. “He was a major influence on the firm.”

Fist started at the firm in 1955 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Oklahoma Law Review. A Tulsa native, Fist was 76 when he passed away earlier this year of natural causes. He is survived by a wife and daughter.

Fist will be permanently memorialized following a tree-planting ceremony in his honor on Friday, July 11, at 9 a.m. at the Education Service Center. The public and media are invited to attend.
