Roosevelt Hosts Special Person Luncheon
9/5/2008, 10 a.m.
Location
Roosevelt Elementary School
1202 W. Easton St.
(918) 833-8960
Giving thanks to grandma and grandpa—or just a special person in a child’s life—is what an upcoming event at Roosevelt Elementary School is about.
Those special folks are invited to come on out on September 5, enjoy a special lunch prepared by the chefs in the school’s cafeteria, and read to the class. The school’s Sandra Joseph tells us arrangements are being made to give each guest a carnation. (But that’s a secret. So don’t tell anyone.)
A similar event last year drew 75 people. This year’s attendance should top that as Roosevelt’s enrollment has increased to 412 students.
State Officials Kick Off “Winning with Asthma” Campaign

Location
Hale High School
6960 E. 21 St.
(918) 925-1200
Nathan Hale High School’s East Side Stadium is the location as Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins launches the state’s “Winning with Asthma” statewide campaign, an online program which trains coaches, physical education teachers and anyone interested in asthma management. Askins will join local coaches and medical professionals for a question and answer session afterward.
Founded in Utah and Minnesota, the “Winning with Asthma” program was created so coaches could learn about asthma, how it affects an athlete’s ability to compete, and how they could help athletes manage their symptoms while playing their best.
Participants who visit www.winningwithasthma.org and complete the free online training will receive a certificate of completion, informational pamphlet and clipboard outlining what should be done during an asthma attack.
The program’s launch is at 10 a.m.
