About Us

We will provide quality learning experiences for every student, every day,
without exception.

The vision of John Burroughs Elementary is to educate the whole child.  Our school population consists of 96.1% African-American, 1.6% American-Indian, and 1.6% Caucasian.  Our attendance average is 95.4% with a mobility rate of 50%.

We are a Reading First School; and all of our classes have a daily 90 minute uninterrupted Reading block with an additional 30 minute block added for our targeted students.  We also implement a 90 minute Math block to meet the mathematic standards.

The academic success of John Burroughs is due to significant cooperation  within the community.  Our program is supported by Tulsa Public Schools, community members, business partners (Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Tulsa Transit, OneOk, Belks Department Store and Spaghetti Warehouse), staff, students and other citizens of the community.

Burroughs has twenty five highly qualified, certified educators who provide a quality educational experience to every child, every day, without exception.

We take pride in educating students who will grow to be responsible and productive citizens of the community!
