The Gifted and Talented Program - 2008-2009

 

 This year at Byrd Middle School (2008-2009 we are offering six dedicated classes for gifted and talented students with many more opportunities spread out throughout the core curriculum. and exploratory curriculum. There is a full year program for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who qualify.

Byrd Middle School is a Gifted and Talented environment for all students to learn. We provide students in our building with an integrated approach to creative problem solving and collaborative communication projects. We provide opportunities for studies to try out for the Academic Team Competition, work on the School Web Page, and we provide strong emphasis on independence and acquisition of higher order thinking skills. 

Each student at Byrd is offered many gifted and talented opportunities. There are Excel classes in certain core subjects, enrichment opportunities with music and art, advanced classes in technology education, and high school classes in math, science, and foreign languages including Spanish, and Chinese. In addition, we have the Byrd/Beijing Exchange program with our sister school, Beijing #15 Branch Middle School in Beijing.

There are many student activities that work to promote students' gifts and talents including Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, Builder's Club, Academic Team, Ebony Bowl, the Drama Club, Concert Band, Orchestra, the Yearbook, Athletics, and TSA.
