Hello my name is Will Brock and I will be your guide through the world of the Internet. In our school we have a Computer Science class that teaches us an overview of Microsoft Office and teaches us how to build a webpage through either Yahoo Geocities or Microsoft Office FrontPage.
I will explain what HTML is and also how CERN and Tim Berners-Lee came to be the founders and inventors of the World Wide Web (www). I find computer activities very fun and entertaining, but these activities can also be very rewarding and educational at the same time. I have had a good time creating a webpage for this competition and have learned quite a lot working with my friends, Will and Michael. There are many different programs to use to build WebPages such as Yahoo GeoCities, Microsoft FrontPage, and Adobe Dreamweaver. I will explain the differences and problems with using each of these programs a little later in this webpage project. I think it is very interesting to try different programs and also very challenging.
I am also learning some things about HTML which I will teach you some of what I have learned later on in the Webpage. There is a very wide array of HTML codes such has <b> for bold and <p> for paragraph and there is a near infinite amount of codes for color such as #000000 is black and #333333 is a slightly lighter black.
I will be teaching you about CERN and ARPAnet which are the two main consortiums that created and sponsored the World Wide Web. ARPAnet was first network to come along, but it invented something that was what you could call the precursor to the World Wide Web. It was an electronic connection between military and high level institutes such as MIT, the Rand Corporation, and the military with Tinker Air Force Base here in Oklahoma being our connection to ARPAnet. Then CERN came a long and took the concept of ARPAnet and developed the World Wide Web, and taking the technology global and public, and that’s when the World Wide Web was created!
