Carver Middle School Curriculum
The middle
school structure encompasses sixth, seventh,
and eighth grades. At each grade level,
students are enrolled in four courses in the
core curriculum areas: Language Arts,
Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Students are expected to achieve
satisfactory thinking skills, inquiry,
creativity, and independent practice.
Class Schedule
On Mondays,
Tuesdays and Fridays classes meet for
forty-five minutes. On Wednesdays and
Thursdays classes meet for ninety minutes.
Core 2, Core 4, and Core 7 classes
meet on Wednesdays, and Core 1, Core 3, and
Core 6 classes meet on Thursdays.
The goal for extending time is to enhance
learning. Additional time allows for a
variety of instructional techniques and
active learning activities that require
higher order thinking skills, inquiry,
creativity, and independent practice.

AOI
There are five Areas of Interaction (AOI): approaches to learning, community and service, homo faber, environment, and health and social education. The Areas of interaction are integrated into every subject. There is also a block of time each day reserved to focus on AOI, specifically the physical, social and emotional health and intelligence of adolescents. This time
promotes self-esteem; self, group, and community
awareness; an awareness of how students learn and the multiple intelligences; and decision making, goal setting, and interpersonal
skills.
