The following companies donated items to Carver
Middle School's amazing readers:
- Quick Trip - Generously donated
more than enough free cookie and milk coupons. In the
middle of the year students were given a coupon for every 75,000
words they had read. At the end of the year, 4 coupons
were given to each million word reader.
- Drillers - Generously donated a
package which included four free tickets, a commemorative beach
towel, and an official baseball magazine. This package was
given to the student who read the most words this year.
Brenna read 3,355,421. We had three other three million
word readers too.
- Dominoes - Generously donated
plastic cups for all million word readers. We had 96!
They also provided approximately 80 "Delivering the Dough" pizza
cards, and two coupons for a free medium pizza. The cups
and pizza cards were distributed in gift bags for million word
readers. The two pizza coupons were given to each of the
second place readers, Will and Zach.
- Borders - Donated a Jersey
Boys CD, a Rebels CD, a Canadian Brass CD, a
paperback copy of Siverfin, a hardback copy of The
Misadventures of Benjamin Bartholomew Piff , and a
paperback copy of Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover’s Soul II
. The four top readers got to choose two items from a
collection including these items and some other items.
- The fourth top reader was Jack. He got
to choose between two prizes that I had in the library.
Thank you, Quick Trip, Drillers, Dominoes,
and Borders. We didn't even call Quick Trip! They
provided this incentive on their own initiative. (Initiative
is a great life skill!) Also, special thanks to the
other donors who responded with such short notice.
Thank you to all of the students who read!
Thank you to all of the teachers and adults in the building who
inspired our students. Thanks to the parents who know how
important reading is and helped their very busy children block in
time to read. Thanks to the students who shared favorite books
and authors with other students. Reading is everyone's
responsibility. Let's making reading contagious at Carver!!
