Dear Parents:
Harwelden Performance
We will have a play called Fool of the World presented in the gym at 9:30 Friday morning. You are welcome to join us.
Transfers
All Middle school transfer applications are due this Friday to the ESC south of 31st on New Haven.
Deadline for interdistrict (county) transfers is Tuesday, April 1.
Report cards
Report cards will be sent home tomorrow. I will also send home the Wednesday folder again with progress reports from the Reading Counts, SuccessMaker, and any special classes your child attends. Please send the folder back twice this week.
Web Site
Chouteau’s web site is a wonderful place to find out new information and see pictures of what your child is doing at school. You can access it at www.tulsaschools.org/schools/chouteau
Mrs. Clay updates it every couple weeks and I am trying to supply her with current letters and pictures on a regular basis. The library page has just been updated to include lists of RC books (tests on the computer).
Jazz Unit
Our music, PE teachers and librarian have teamed up to do a jazz unit during February. Your child will be listening to jazz music, learning some songs and a dance. We will also learn more about some jazz musicians.
Camp Fire
Camp Fire will have a ceremonial for its 4th and 5th graders tomorrow at 3:45 in the library. This would be a good time for you to visit to see if Camp Fire is an activity your child should be involved in. It is never too late to sign up and attend meetings.
State Writing test
The OK writing test will be given Wednesday, February 20, 2008. We are currently writing in our journals every day from a prompt with a grammar emphasis like writing quotations, using adjectives, or adverbs.
We will practice in the official test practice book next week and send it home on Wednesday. Be sure to ask your child about the test taking tips we are learning.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me.

Dear Parents:
We have had a great first week of school! We have an awesome group of 5th graders and we’re looking forward to many exciting things this school year.
We are on our regular academic schedule and are focusing on the core subjects of reading/language arts, math, social studies and science. Chouteau recently became part of the Oklahoma A+ program through the University of Central Oklahoma and will continue integration of the arts throughout the curriculum.
Back to school night for 5th grade will be held on August 30th at 5:30 p.m. We will be discussing classroom procedures, saying hellos and learning about multiple intelligences.
Chouteau has opened up transfers for children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and 4th and 5th grades. If you know anyone who is interested in our school send them to us!!! Tell them about the exciting things we have been up to so we can build our community.
Thank you for a great first week. Call if you need anything or have any questions.
Sincerely,
Kathy Blank Lisa Rucker

Dear Parents and 5th grade students,
GREAT BEGINNINGS We are off to a great start getting to know new procedures and what is expected of a fifth grader. We have enrolled three new students this week but are still looking for three more to complete our enrollment. We encourage you to spread the word with friends and family about our great school and the high expectations we have at Chouteau.
WEDNESDAY is the day we usually send home school notes, graded papers, progress reports and any other information we want you to be sure to see. We also encourage you to look over and sign your student’s planner. This week we also have sent home book order(s). We would like to have the orders and money returned to school by Monday. We will send them home monthly so participate when you are able.
SNACKS seem be to very important this year. We go to lunch late so we have been supplying snacks daily. If you want to help with these, please send a cash contribution or appropriate snacks for 16 people. We prefer graham crackers, fruit snacks, or something other than candy.
ORGANIZATION is the character trait for this month. We are striving to improve our knowledge and practice of this very important life skill. COMMUNITY is the all school theme we are using for our focus.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT for Pre-K and 5th grade will be Thursday, August 30. We will send more information home next week.
HOMEWORK for 5th graders includes studying for tests…even after the written assignments are finished. This is new for some students and parent help is encouraged.
THANKS to all the parents who sent back the enrollment papers so quickly. We did an awesome job getting everything turned into the office on time. Let us know if you have questions or concerns.
