ABC’s of

Pre-Kindergarten

Please read through the following ABC’s of Pre-Kindergarten. Much of the information you will find is specific to our class. You can refer to this throughout the year when questions arise.

A – Alphabet Castle – In our classroom you will see a castle I created on the bulletin board. It has 26 windows – one for each letter of the alphabet. Each letter’s window will be opened the week it is reviewed.

Ms. Angie – Ms. Angie is our super awesome assistant in the Pre-K classroom. Behind every great teacher is a great assistant!! No kidding!

Absences – Your child will benefit the most if you bring your child to school every day! We can not make up for lost time!

B – Book Orders – I will be sending home Scholastic Book Club forms each month for you to purchase for your child at a reduced rate.

Birthdays – We love to celebrate birthdays! The birthday child will have a special birthday circle time and everyone will make a wish for the coming year. Be sure and check with Mrs. Haughey or Ms. Angie to set up this special moment.

C – Curriculum Guide – This is a guide that details what we will do this year and the approach we take to learning. It will be available beginning August 24.

Cougars – This is our school mascot! Fridays are spirit day – wear your favorite Chouteau Cougar t-shirt!

Mrs. Clay – Mrs. Clay is our amazing administrative right hand to Dr. Burk. She is our guiding star!

D- Detective - We are learning detectives in Mrs. Haughey’s class! We will be exploring the world around us!

Dr. Burk – He is the best principal ever!

E- Emergencies - Please make sure we have current emergency information (cell phone numbers, work numbers). Our class will also practice school plans for fires, intruders and tornadoes.

Emails – You can contact Mrs. Haughey at this email address fowlesa@tulsaschools.org.

F- Family Nights – Mrs. Haughey loves to get to know the Pre-K families! We will have four Family Nights, one each quarter. Watch the B.E.E. Folder for details.

Field Trips - We will take at least one bus field trip and several walking field trips. Please make sure you sign the field trip forms or we cannot allow your child to go. Flyers for volunteer parents to help will be sent closer to the trips.

G – Grade Cards – I will hold a short meeting on how to understand your child’s grade card when the first one is due to come out. You will receive the report card at the end of each semester.

H – Homework – Homework will be sent on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning the second week of school.

Mrs. Haughey – I have three children of my own and have been married for 25 years! I love teaching 4 year olds.

Handwriting – We will work on basic fine motor skills before beginning formal handwriting. We will work with each child to see when it is appropriate to begin writing their name. We will keep you posted.

I – Illnesses – If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees or more, you must keep them home for 24 hours. This is the best thing for your child and for the reduction of illnesses in the classroom.

J – Journals – We love journals! Several times a month your child will come home with a language journal to share with you. Your child will draw a picture and then tell one of the teachers what to write under it. We will read the words back to your child. At home, you can read these as well, and help your child grow into an author and a reader!

K – "Keep Up" –with all class information by using the B.E.E. Folder! Your child will bring the B.E.E. Folder to and from school every day. In it, all communication will be kept. It is a great place to stick a not to Mrs. Haughey. She loves parent mail!
