Curriculum

Students are offered special

classes in music, library, gym,

art, and computers. Below is

information on the academics.

Language Arts/Reading - We will be having a phonics activity each day. Self selected reading and read aloud books will be an important component. Ongoing reading challenges will occur throughout the school year. It is encouraged that students read 15 to 30 min. each night.

Math – Through Growing with Mathematics, students are encouraged to use problem solving skills to solve real world situations. Hands-on activities will enhance student learning.

Social Studies - Students will learn about themselves, other cultures, their community, and map studies, as well as social skills in getting along with others.

Science - Students will be involved in inquiry based activities that include Soils, Weights/Balance, Liquids/Solids/Gases, and the Lifecycle of the Butterfly.

Art/Music - Fine Arts are integrated in the curriculum.

            School begins at 7:55 a.m. sharp! Attendance is

            very important at Chouteau Elementary School and

            students are praised and rewarded for being on time!

 

2nd Graders are dismissed at 2:45 p.m. If waiting for older students to be dismissed, they need to wait in front hallway (where parents wait).

Homework - Students will have a small amount of homework each day to reinforce schoolwork and to learn the responsibility of returning it to school.

 

(If your child happens to forget their homework, have them read for 20 minutes and write a note to

tell us what was

read. They will get

credit for doing

Mrs. Dana McBurney

 

 

 

 

 

     I was born in Ardmore, but grew up in Ohio, Wyoming, California, New Mexico, and many places in Oklahoma.  I have three brothers in the Oklahoma/Texas area and my parents live in Oklahoma City.  I’ve been married to Gary McBurney for 18 years and he has a daughter, Kendra.

 

 

 

    Our puppy’s name is Sandy.  He is very spoiled and thinks it’s our job to do everything he wants!

   I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.  I have taught first through eighth grades over the past 22 years.  I received my National Board Certification in 2004.
