Companions of the Night
by Vivian Vande Velde
Subjects: Vampires
Genre: Horror
"When
Ian came into Kerry's room to ask for a favor, it never occurred to her that her
four-year-old brother could ask her to do something that might get her
killed." Kerry is 16 and her brother asks her to go to an all night laundry mat to get
his stuffed bear. It’s all her
mom’s fault really. If she
hadn’t run off and left them, taking the washer and dryer with her, Ian would
never have lost his bear and none of this would have happened. What results is a nightmare of lying,
kidnapping, car theft, vampires, and murder.
This book is about choices. It’s
also about good and evil. Is good
always 100% good or can an evil thing have a shade of good and good a
shade of evil. How do you judge
which is worse? Kerry must make some choices about evil and good after the
incident in the laundry mat results in the kidnapping of her brother and father. Is it ever ok to help commit a murder? Kerry is going to find out for her decisions lead to at least
6 other deaths.
