Course Description
Environment Biology
Environmental Science
is a study of man’s relationship to the environment. Costa Rica, with twelve
distinct ecological systems, will serve as the classroom for our studies.
From tropical rain forest to underwater coral reef, from the slopes of
active volcanoes to the unique environment where ocean meets jungle,
students will experience our planet’s natural wonder’s first hand. Students
will also experience the unique history and culture of Costa Rica, a proudly
democratic nation that has become a world leader in the preservation of its
rich natural heritage. More than 9,000 different kinds of flowering plants
grow in this country, including more than 1,300 species of orchids. Nearly
850 species of birds have been identified there, which is more than are
found in all of the United States, Canada and the northern half of Mexico
combined. The country is also home for 209 species of mammals, 383 kinds of
reptiles and amphibians, and about 2,000 species of butterflies.
