ATTENDANCE POLICY AND PROCEDURES FOR “NO CREDIT” EXPLAINED
The Tulsa
Public School District’s
Attendance Policy states that all students must attend each class 90% of the
school days, or the student will receive No Credit for that class. This means that any absence unrelated to
school will count in the total days missed.
The district realizes there are valid reasons for students to be out,
and that is why there is an appeal process at the END of each semester. It is
imperative that parents bring in doctor’s notes and sick day notes to be placed
in their student’s attendance file.
Remember documentation should be turned in within 48 hours of the
absence. Since, Edison
staff has received many questions regarding how the policy affects students, here
is the process by which parents and students will be notified.
- Counselors
will notify and mail an “Endanger of Receiving No Credit” notification
form to the parent for every class in which a student has missed 4 or more
days. This includes any absence, excused
or unexcused, not
related to school. Suspensions do not count in the total
absences.
- If a
student accumulates 9 absence days from any class, the counselor will
notify and mail a “Notification of No Credit” form to the parent for each
applicable class. At this point,
parents will be mailed a letter stating how to appeal the absences for
that class or classes.
- At the
end of the semester, counselors will notify the parents who need to appeal
absences, and mail the “School Attendance Appeal Form.” Dates of when the form is due back to
the counselor are printed on the form.
- The
Attendance Committee will meet and review each appeal.
- Counselors
will notify parents that their student was not granted the appeal, and send a letter about how to
appeal the decision at the district level.
Students whose appeals are granted will receive their earned grade
for the class or classes in question.
