| Art Show Awards Amber Straessle, Edison senior, will receive the Grand Prize Levit Award at the TPS district art show at Fulton. Zac King, junior, won 2nd place in mixed media. Jordan Haldane won honorable mention in drawing and painting. Brendan Gauvick, 10th grade, won for drawing and painting an honorable mention. Cassandra Case won honorable mention in mixed media, and Haylee Higgs, ninth grade, won 1st place in drawing and painting. Seventeen 7th Graders
Earn
State Recognition
A record number of 7th grade students scored high enough on the SAT or ACT in the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s Talent Search to receive State of Oklahoma Recognition. Fifty Edison 7th graders took the college entrance exams, and 17 scored high enough for state recognition. They are: Dalton Templeton, Amy Bailey, Corbin Brown, Megan Carter, Shaina Cash, Keith Child, Nathan Clagg, James Foster, Lauren Langholz, Kaela Little, Connor Manley, Kelsie Merchant, Madeline Phillips, Jordan Price, Steven Sharpe, Darian Storms, and Jessica Walker. These students will be recognized in a May 15 ceremony at the University of Tulsa. For State Recognition, students had to score 520 or higher on Math and 510 or higher on Critical Reading on the SAT. On the ACT, students were recognized for English, Math, Reading, and Science scores of 21 or higher. | Heritage Festival Results Congratulations to the Edison Preparatory School Instrumental Music Department on their success at this weekend's Heritage Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Edison's Instrumental Music Department won the Instrumental Sweepstakes Award for highest scores of any Instrumental Music Group, the Edison Orchestra was chosen as Outstanding Orchestra for the competition and the Edison "Screamin' Eagles" Jazz Band was given the Adjudicators Award for Excellence where the adjudicators vote for the outstanding group of the entire competition. Ratings for the Edison groups include: Jazz Band Gold, Orchestra - Silver, and Band- Silver. Taylor Johnson received a "Maestro" Award voted by the judges as an outstanding soloist. |

City Champs The Edison Preparatory Middle School 6th grade Girls Basketball team are City Champions after beating two teams in the rescheduled playoffs. Team players included: Lauren Chamberlain, Paige Dowdy, Ausha Edwards, Ariel Harris, Lea King, Meredith Lockhart, Jazmine Oliver, Kylene Pratt, Meske Smith, Sydney Stoever, Tory Thompson and Emily Wallace. | MS - Ebony Bowl Edison wins another trophy from Ebony Bowl The Ebony Awareness Bowl, a competition of Black History, was held Saturday, February 9, at the Education Service Center. Edison took 3rd Place in the competition. Once again, we were victorious in winning a trophy. Please congratulate the following students: Kyla Rhoads, 8th grade; Madeline Nave, 8th grade; Kenjah Battle, 7th grade; Gabriel Hargrove, 7th grade and Jordan Dapolito, 6th grade. Each participant received a 3rd Place trophy, certificate, t-shirt and $50.00. The sponsor, Mrs. McKittrick, received the same and brought home a school trophy.

GIRLS TAKE TOP Two Edison Middle School girls, Courtney Dudley on String Bass and Heather Ryan on Clarinet, received superior ratings in district solo and ensemble contests Saturday, March 1 at Jenks Middle School. Congratulations are also in order for Edison Middle School students chosen for the Metro Honor Orchestra. MS - "Look Alike" - Essay Prize Edison MS Twins, Myles Coen and Grace Coen, have won First and Third honorable mention in the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women 2007-2008 Essay Contest. MS Reflections Contest Several Edison MS students took cash prizes in the annual PTSA Reflections Contest. Photography awards went to Ashley Drumright, 1st & 2nd place prizes of $35and $20, respectively, and Ana Ulberg, 3rd place prize of $10. In the Art category, Haley Morrow took 1st for $35, Elizabeth Ruyle took 2nd for $20 and Emma Maley took 3rd for $10. In Literature, Jonathan Miller took 1st place for $35. In Dance, Jordan Price took 1st for $35. Austin Bain took 1st for $35 in Film/Video. Congratulations students on excellent entries and your success! MS - Science Fair - 1st Place Winner Haley Morrow Wins 1st Place in Junior Division at State Science Fair Edison 8th grader, Haley Morrow, received 1st place in the junior division for the New Mexico Chapter American Vacuum Society Award at the Oklahoma State Science Fair Competition. She received a certificate and will soon receive $200. Edison science department will also receive a cash award to help support Science Fair activities. Her project title was “The Effects of Friction on the Velocity and Acceleration of an Object in Motion.” Haley said, “My science fair project this year was a continuation of my sixth grade project that studied the effects of the angle of a hill on velocity and acceleration. I continued the study of velocity and acceleration this year by adding friction and seeing how that affected the velocity and acceleration. I found that the greater the friction, the less the velocity and acceleration.” Congratulations Haley on a job well done and for representing Edison Middle School at its best!

MS - Speech Arts Competition The following students have won a place in the Tulsa Public Schools Speech Arts Festival after successfully surviving two Edison MS levels of competition. These students will compete at the district level Thursday, March 27 at Fulton Learning Academy at 4:30 pm. Finals district awards will be held at Skelly Elementary on Thursday, April 10 at 7 pm. Congratulations to these students. A special thank you to Edison Festival Coordinator Linda Broughton and the many reading and language arts teachers who taught the speech arts curriculum and who judged the preliminary competitions grades 6-8. MS - Tennis QUALIFY FOR STATE TENNIS TOURNAMENT On April 10, Edison MS tennis players qualified for state in by taking 2nd place overall in the Monte Cassino invitational tournament. Lindsey Howard took 1st place in #1 singles. Abby Tolson took 1st place in #2 singles. Grace Coen and Shaina Cash took 5th place in #1 doubles. Aly Cash and Lauren King took 3rd place in #2 doubles. The girls brought home a beautiful gold cup trophy mounted on walnut. Congratulations also go to our wonderful coach, Diane Miller, mother to Edison MS student Jonathan Miller. |

Speech Arts Festival Edison MS students continue to dominate the TPS district Speech Arts Festival competition, taking four 1st place and two 2nd place wins! Riley Nielsen and Ryan Green took 1st place in MS Duet. Alex Dehart took 1st place in MS Expository Speech. Willie Hill took 1st place in MS Poetry, and Will Hedgecock took a 1st place in MS Retold Story. Rachel Block and Courtney Leach took 2nd place in MS Duet. Lauren Pasco took a 2nd place in MS Expository Speech. These students were honored April 10 at Skelly Elementary. Congratulations to all the Edison language arts and reading teachers who contributed to their success, and a special thanks to the Edison festival coordinator and language arts/reading department chair, Mrs. Linda Broughton. |
