MINUTES OF EDISON PTSA

BOARD MEETING

August 7, 2007

 

 

The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes from the May 2007 PTSA Board meeting were approved.

 

President Stacy Loeffler started the meeting by asking each attendee to introduce themselves.

 

Principal’s Report:  Outgoing Principal Steve Mayfield spoke to the group about his hard decision to accept a position as an Area Superintendent.  He thanked the PTSA for all of their support and hard work throughout the 8 years that he was at Edison.

Interim Principal Stacey Vernon introduced herself and expressed her enthusiasm towards her new position at Edison.  She reported that

  • Superintendent Zolkosky has an advisory council and Edison needs to have one middle school rep and one high school rep to sit on the board.  Anyone interested should contact Mrs. Vernon.
  • 19 new teachers will be at Edison.  11 in the high school and 8 in the middle school.

 

Edison Foundation:  Beverly Tolson reported that the foundation will have a newsletter this year called “The Screaming Eagle”.  The foundation plans to mail out approximately 12,000 copies to residents in the Edison district.  The newsletter will provide information about Edison, the foundation and will solicit donations.  The Eagle Roost Home tour will be held again in February 2008.  It was very successful last year.  Beverly invited all interested persons to attend the foundation meetings that are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center.

 

President’s Report:  Stacy reported

  • Volunteer forms must be filled out for each person that is planning on volunteering at Edison.  Edison cannot count volunteer hours for anyone that has not completed and turned in a form.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Karen Kelley presented the final report as of June 30, 2007 for the 2006-2007 school year.  The report was accepted as presented.  The proposed budget for the upcoming school year will be presented at the next board meeting and voted up at the upcoming unit meeting.

 

Middle School Vice President:  No report

High School Vice President:  No report

 

Committee Reports

Legislation:  Stacy reported that the Counselor Resolution passed unanimously at the State PTSA Convention in July.  The next step is for PTSA members is to meet with state legislature members to discuss the resolution.  Robyn Sanzalone will lead this effort.

 

Membership:  PTSA members will be selling memberships at the schedule pick up, 6th & 9th grade orientation and back to school nights.

 

Directory:  Forms for information will be available at schedule pick up, 6th & 9th grade orientation and back to school nights.  Ads are for sell that will be placed in the directory.  It was discussed to add e-mail addresses to the directory.

 

College Connection:  Laura Summers reported that this is the 21st year for Edison to host the College Connection.   It will be held on September 9, 1-4 pm. at the Expo Pavilion.  College Connection is a free college fair with over 17,000 invitations being sent out.   100 college and financial institutions have already signed up to participate in this year’s event.   Volunteers are needed to help set up, break down and work the event.

 

Spring Market – Jean Budd reported that Julie LeVann will chair the 6th annual Spring Market to be held on April 26, 2008. 

 

Middle School Hoodie Sales:  Peggy Morrow showed the new design for the hoodies.  PTSA will be taking orders at schedule pick-up.  Proceeds from the sales will go to the individual class accounts.

 

New Business

Edison Website:  There will be a link on the Edison website that will direct users to a fund raiser page.  This page will list all Edison related fund raisers.  To get a fund raiser listed on the page, fill out the fund raiser form that goes to Dr. Holt for middle school and Mrs. Connelly for high school.  Ms. Wallace will get them listed on the website.

 

Grade Rep Reports:

6th Grade – 12 parents have volunteered to be grade reps

7th Grade – Will be providing volunteers for 6th & 7th grade schedule pick-up.  Will be selling locker organizers for $25.

8th Grade – Selling class pack for $20.12.  This will cover cost for most 8th grade activities.

9th Grade – No report

10th Grade – No report

11th Grade – No report

12th Grade – No report

 

New Business

Stacy opened up the floor for brainstorming ideas for PTSA projects for the upcoming year.  Ideas presented are as follows;

  • Reach out to at-risk students
  • Promote Counselor Resolution
  • Advertise uniform closet that contains 1000 pieces of clothing.  Give out notification at schedule pick-up
  • Contact Cyber Unit at Tulsa Police Department to do presentation to students/parents
  • Trash cans for field/tennis courts
  • Bleachers for tennis courts
  • Recycling containers for lunch room
  • Beautification Day – enhance landscaping – Find Master Plan for Edison
  • Portable microphone to be used by PTSA at meetings, etc.
  • Send off party for Steve Mayfield
  • Ed-Line for all students/parents
  • Traffic study
  • Resurrect Eagle T.V. morning news broadcasts – possibly a new club
  • Step up College Prep – college connection
  • Vehicle to welcome new families at Edison.  Suggestions - page on website, in first newsletter, multicultural newsletter
