MINUTES OF EDISON PTSA BOARD MEETING September 4, 2007 The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. Secretary’s Report: Minutes from the August 2007 PTSA Board meeting were approved. President Stacy Loeffler started the meeting by asking each attendee to introduce themselves. Principal’s Report: Interim Principal Stacey Vernon reported that
Treasurer’s Report: Karen Kelley presented the report as of August 31, 2007 and the proposed budget for the 2007-2008 school year. She pointed out that excess money has been moved from checking to savings in order to earn a higher interest rate. $40,000 was put in a special line item called “special projects”. These monies will be used to fund special projects approved by the board throughout the school year. The report was accepted as presented. The proposed budget for the upcoming school year will voted on at the upcoming unit meeting. Middle School Vice President: No report High School Vice President: Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Homecoming dance held on October 4, the PSAT test held on October 17 and the PLAN test held on September 26. If you are interested in helping, please contact Sandy Gardner at potsandpans@cox.net Council Delegate: No report Standing Committee Reports Edison Foundation: Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. in the Media Center. Hospitality: Ann White presented and asked for ideas concerning a going away party for Mr. Mayfield. It was suggested that past and present students and parents be invited. Advertising will be done by newsletters, posters, e-mails, marquees and half sheet flyers. Laura Summers moved that the hospitality committee be allowed to spend up to $500 for the party. Karen Kelley seconded. The motion passed. If you are interested in helping plan and host the party, please contact Ann White at wilsontwhite@yahoo.com The hospitality committee is hosting a dinner for the Edison staff on November 1 before the parent/teacher conferences. Ann needs 2-3 volunteers to help serve food starting at 4:00 pm. Volunteers are also needed to provide cookies for the dinner. If you are interested in volunteering or providing cookies, please contact Ann White at wilsontwhite@yahoo.com Legislation: Stacy reported that she is looking for a volunteer to lead the effort of promoting the Counselor Resolution. If you are interested, please contact Stacy at loeffler@bklinc.com Membership: Sandra Otto reported that 380 memberships have been sold to date. PTSA members will be selling memberships at both back to school nights and parent/teacher conferences. Directory: Angie Lucas reported that information forms will be available at back to school nights. Ads are for sell that will be placed in the directory. College Connection: Laura Summers reported that the 21st annual College Connection will be held on September 9, 1-4 pm. at the Expo Pavilion. College Connection is a free college fair with over 17,000 invitations being sent out. 100 college and financial institutions have already signed up to participate in this year’s event. Volunteers are needed to help set up, break down and work the event. Volunteer needs are as follows: Friday, Sept. 7, 12:00 (noon) – load and move items from the school to the fairgrounds. Sunday, Sept. 9, 8:00 am – Help set up and cover tables 1:00 – 4:00 pm – help at event 4:00 pm – Break down table and load items Monday, Sept. 10, 8:00 am – Unload items back into the school closet. Spring Market – The 6th annual Spring Market to be held on April 26, 2008. If you find a vendor that you like, please pass their information onto Jean Budd at jean.ici@tulsacoxmail.com Middle School Hoodie Sales: Peggy Morrow reported that 875 hoodies were sold. Delivery date is scheduled for September 18. One more order will be taken the 1st of November with delivery around Thanksgiving. Grade Rep Reports: 6th Grade – 20 parents have volunteered to be grade reps. They are busy working on Dry Gulch which is scheduled for September 25-27. 7th Grade – Approximately 180 locker works have been sold. Parent meeting on September 20, 7:00 pm in the media center. 8th Grade – If you are interested in helping make the tree cookies for Dry Gulch, please contact Marilyn Cox at 9th Grade – Preparing for Homecoming 10th Grade – Preparing for Homecoming 11th Grade – Preparing for Homecoming 12th Grade – Preparing for Homecoming. The seniors are selling entertainment books. There is a parent meeting scheduled for September 27, 6:00 p.m. at the high school snack bar….go through the back doors. Community Partnerships: Keep on saving your box tops and Campbell’s soup labels. Both items can be turned in at the PTA box or bring them to the next PTSA meeting. If you apply for a Target credit card, please ask for Target’s donations to go to Edison. If you shop at Office Depot, please mention Edison and they will make a donation. College Corner: Check out the new remodel in the College Corner room. Website: Donna Dement reported that the website now has a fund raiser page. This page will list all Edison related fund raisers and dates they are being offered. To get a fund raiser listed on the page, fill out the fund raiser form that goes to Dr. Holt for middle school and Mrs. Connelly for high school. Ms. Wallace will get them listed on the website. The website committee is looking for persons to be a Middle School liaison, and a sports liaison. If you are interested, please contact Donna Dement at d.dement@sbcglobal.net Special Committees Ed-line: Marilyn Cox reported that she is working with the Ed-line staff. They will be presenting a demo with teacher reps from both the high school and middle school. The cost would be $3700 for a school year. Recycling: Roberta Clark reported the MET will be providing containers to collect the empty plastic containers in the lunch room. Details of product pick up are still being worked out. New Business Teacher Activity Fund: Jennifer Butram reported that the teachers are collecting money for a “teacher activity fund” These monies are used to acknowledge rites of passage such as marriages, births, deaths, birthdays, etc and to show appreciation of our teachers. Discussion was held about the PTSA donating to this fund. It was also discussed that the teachers have a representative at all PTSA meetings. Lori Stewart moved that this be tabled until the next meeting so that details can be worked out. Ann White seconded. Landscaping: Stacy reported that she is looking for a volunteer to head up this new committee. This committee will look at the existing master plan; see what needs to be updated. This committee will also instigate planting of flowers, etc. at the front of the building. If you are interested in this committee, please contact Stacy at loeffler@bklinc.com Marquee: Donna Gainey volunteered to do some research about replacing the existing marquee in the front of Edison. Communication: Weekly e-mails will be sent out from the secretary to grade reps concerning upcoming events, pertinent information for the following week. The reps will in turn send them out to their parent groups. If you have information that you want to have included in an e-mail, you must get it to the PTSA President, Stacy, Loeffler at loeffler@bklinc.com by Wednesday to be included in the next day e-mail.
