Language Arts Curriculum: Our First Grade class uses the Scott Foresman Reading Curriculum this year. This program includes: big books and tapes, poems, songs, trade books, letter books, a variety of reading books and many more items.
Here is the website that goes along with the books we are using. There are extension and technology enrichment activities that go along with our units.  http://www.sfreading.com/1-2002/index.html

Along with the curriculum we have Literacy Centers, which include a book area for reading, writing center, listening center and literacy activity centers.

In addition, many students will start the Reading Counts Program sometime this school year.

1. First students select a Reading Counts book on his or her reading level.

2. After the students read a book, they take a computer-generated comprehension quiz and receive instant feedback. It is usually best to re-read short stories more than one time. The quiz often asks for the child to name the title of the story and the author.

3. The instant, data-driven reports help inform instruction. You know what progress students have made and when to intervene.

The following site has more information on the Reading Counts Program. http://teacher.scholastic.com/products/readingcounts/overview/teachers.htm
