Electives

At Foster Middle School, your child must make two(2) selections for his or her elective classes. There will be many to choose from. The elective classes we offer are: Instrumental Music (Band), Vocal Music (Chorus), Physical Education, Art, Spanish, Computer Education, and the Leadership Corps/JROTC. Here are some brief descriptions of our elective classes.

Art:

Draw, paint, color, sculpt!   Foster Art students stay busy creating mini-masterpieces while learning the elements of art and principles of design.

Computer Education:

Computer Education students work to acquire computer skills that will serve them throughout their school years, in their personal lives, and in their future careers.  The students learn to operate computers and software quickly and correctly while gaining confidence and the skills necessary for learning more advanced computer applications.

Instrumental Music (Band):

Band classes at Foster Middle School have a curriculum structured to meet objectives from the beginning band student through advanced band student. Students will be given instructions on their instrument and will be given many opportunities to perform. Band Is A Class Act!

JROTC/Leadership Corps:

Trojan Company Leadership Academy cadets learn to lead effectively through exercises in self study, education, training and experience gained while participating in Classroom Activities, Uniform Days, Drill and Ceremonies, Physical Training and Extra-curricular Activities such as Drill Teams, Color Guards, and Parade marches.

Physical Education:

The school physical education program provides each person with several opportunities- from assessment of fitness levels and consequent activities that will strengthen personal weakness to development of lifetime skills and understanding enabling the student to lead a full and productive life while in school and afterward.

Spanish:

Three Spanish courses are offered at Foster: Spanish A and Spanish B, each semester-long courses, and also a year-long course taken in the 8th grade for High School credit. Through techniques from conversation to writing to listening, working individually, in pairs or in group studies, students will learn a wide array of common vocabulary, the basic grammatical structure of Spanish and will become acquainted with Hispanic culture as we learn exciting details about many Spanish-speaking countries!

Vocal Music (Chorus):

The Foster Choir classes are exciting and fun. Our goal is to learn how to sing two and three part music in a choral setting. Our music is varied and appropriate for the middle school voice. We also learn music theory (lines and spaces, note values etc.) so we can begin “reading” the music we sing. Music programs and contests are part of our year as we become “one” voice.
