Instrumental Music

   

Experience Music in a  caring atmosphere where Excellence is always our goal.  Gilcrease Middle School offers the student an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of any string or wind instrument.

 

All instruments are provided for the students to use during the school year free of charge!

No experience is necessary! With a “HANDS ON” approach-  The student learns the instrument step by step.

Students have several performance opportunities throughout the year to showcase their musical progress

 

 

At Gilcrease- Instrumental Music Students learn Discipline, and Responsibility in an environment that encourages and utilizes Interaction with others.

Music Makes The Brain Grow

Childhood music lessons enlarge the brain.  Researchers found that the area in the brain that analyzes musical pitch is an average of 25% larger in musicians.  The younger the student is when the lessons begin, the larger the area. Nature, 4/23/998

 

Rhythm Students Learn Fractions Better   After learning eighth, quarter, half and whole notes/rests, 2nd and 3rd graders scored 100% higher than their peers who were taught fractions using traditional methods.

Graduate of the University of Tulsa

An Instructor at the Barthelmes Conservatory and Music Center in Tulsa

Recipient of the Tulsa Public Schools' Teachers Touching Tomorrow Award 2001

Gilcrease Middle School Teacher of the Year 2003

Recipient of the Award of Excellence in Education 2003, 2005

He has worked with instrumental music students in the Tulsa,  Broken Arrow and Union school districts  since 1985

Director,  Gilcrease Middle School since 1996.

Philosophy of Teaching

Students should have a caring,  non-threatening environment in which to learn . Music is a vehicle that can take the student to many wonderful places as it gives them many wonderful experiences academically and socially.  My job is to utilize music to help them in all other content areas.

Gilcrease offers two classes in instrumental music.  If you are interested in Strings class or Band class please make a request when enrolling.
