We will reach the midway point of the first quarter this week. I can’t believe how quickly time passes. This means that it is time for progress reports to go home soon. They are on the calendar for September 19th. However, progress reports will go home for ALL students on September 26th. Many teachers send weekly grade reports as well. Please read and be aware of the progress report that your child brings home on September 26th. These reports provide you an opportunity to intervene early before academic struggles become overwhelming. Many teachers may indicate the possibility for retention on progress reports, especially in younger grade levels. I urge you to discuss this possibility with your student’s teacher. It may seem early to make that observation. However, it is the intention of the Hoover Staff to provide you with the earliest possible notification that grade level expectations are difficult for your child. Additionally, many letters about tardies and absences are being mailed or sent with progress reports. If you receive a letter, please make appropriate adjustments to improve attendance and timeliness. Good attendance is the foundation for academic excellence. It is important for your student to be at school EVERY DAY if they are healthy and able. Please schedule appointments and lunch dates outside of school time. Please be aware of these times: 7:15 Breakfast begins (the earliest that any student should be at school) 7:30 Main doors open (supervision begins for students not eating breakfast) 7:45 1st bell rings (students may go to classrooms) 7:55 2nd bell rings (students not in class are considered tardy) 2:40 1st dismissal bell rings (students prepare to leave) 2:45 2nd dismissal bell rings (students may exit with their class) Please fill out the attached form and return it to your student’s teacher to assist with dismissal. If your child walks off the campus and meets you somewhere else they are considered a walker. Please mark the appropriate box. As most of you know, Hoover students have an opportunity that many other elementary students do not. The opportunity to learn Chinese is new this year at Hoover. Because of the staff’s participation in a variety of training and exchange programs we were awarded a full time Chinese Teacher, Zhang Qunfang. In addition to this, we have established a sister school in Chongqing, China. The First Experimental Primary School in the Central District was established as our sister school through a principal exchange and teacher exchange. On October 2nd, a student exchange will begin. Ten students and five teachers from our sister school will arrive in Tulsa. On October 3rd, we will have a school-wide welcome assembly. I encourage you to come and meet out guests. There are also t-shirts available for this occasion. Order forms should be with today’s packet of information. Please support Hoover in this unique opportunity. DON’T FORGET!!!!! Your PTA provided school wide home access to brainpop.com and brainpopjr.com. The user name is hoovertps. The password is huskies. This is a great educational website that all students enjoy.
Thank you for choosing Hoover! Chris Clark
