My name is Rick Meacham and I am a fourth grade teacher at Lanier
Elementary. I guess you could say, “teaching is in my blood.” My
father, a teacher himself, always stressed the importance of education. I
am proud to say that I was able to benefit from his knowledge in a
classroom setting.
After graduating from Will Rogers High School here in Tulsa, which
seems like a lifetime ago (1979), I eventually went into the beauty supply
business. I went from there to work for Creek County within the E-911
emergency addressing system. After a layoff occurred, I was able to return
to college full time to finish my degree in education. I received my
Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Langston University through the
University center at Tulsa.
That was
17 years ago and I have had the opportunity to teach at Houston, Addams,
and Lanier elementary Schools respectively. It is such a joy to me to see
the “light” in a student’s eye when something finally clicks inside.
In my spare time, I’m happy to say that I am “my kids dad.” I
have 8 children – seven boys and a little girl. So
as you can imagine, I am constantly on the run
with football games, practices, etc. I also enjoy music and am very active
in the music program within our church.
To the parents of those that I have taught over the last
17 years, thank you for trusting me with your most precious possession –
your child. Together we have learned a lot.
