Having mastered the joys of kindergarten, students come
to first grade eager to continue their learning adventure. Reading and
math skills are emphasized and parents can enrich and practice these
skills in a variety of ways. Reading aloud to their children,
listening to their children read and practicing math skills of basic
facts, patterning and knowledge of money all help first graders to be
successful in their classrooms.
1st graders love to learn about the world around
them. Hands on activities teach them about our physical world and
encourage them to be scientists with good observation skills. Building
on a children's natural curiosity, students are eager to unfold the
mysteries of oceans and landforms, the weather, and the world of plants and
animals.
Students continue to explore their world about
them by examining communities and neighborhoods. Field trips help our
students recognize the variety of workers needed in a community and how
people and the environment interact.
Library, computer, PE and Music classes all add
to a very busy but fulfilling day for our Marshall First Graders!
Learning to read can be hard work for children. Fortunately,
research is now available that suggests how to give each child
a good start in reading. Just knowing what your
child should be doing at school and home can help.
