Every year Marshall Elementary
School holds a Young Author’s
Conference. It includes author and
storyteller visits, collaboration
with the community, student awards
and book sharing.
Every child writes, edits, and
publishes a story. Stories are
graded and judged by the classroom
teacher. We send the top 50% of the
books to community volunteer
judges. An Awards Tea ceremony is
held by grade level where all
children are recognized by community
members, parents, and teachers.
Children receive ribbons of
accomplishment.
Students
also heard a storyteller and met the
children’s librarian from the
neighborhood library. We have a
book sharing event where students
are in multiage groups throughout
the building in a rotation schedule
where children move from group to
group sharing their writings with a
new audience each time.
