Integrated Thematic Instruction
Integrated Thematic Instruction (ITI), is a "brain-compatible" teaching model developed by Susan Kovalik.  ITI is based upon the development and orchestration of one unifying year long concept and all its ramifications through which all content and skills are woven.  The theme acts as a pattern for organizing ideas, materials, and actions for both teacher and student.  There are three basic tenants to the ITI method:  brain research, curriculum development, and teaching strategies.

Positive Behavior Support

Positive behavior support is an application of  a behaviorally-based systems approach to enhance the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining systems of support that improve lifestyle results (personal, health, social, family, work, recreation) for all children and youth by making problem behavior less effective, efficient, and relevant, and desired behavior more functional.   READ MORE

Marshall Elementary is a professional learning community that understands the teacher is the school's single most determining factor in student success.  The staff collectively searches for ways to become more efficient. We value changing our own knowledge base and skills for improvement.  Our charge is to have concentrated efforts to improve effectiveness so that students will continue to be successful learners. In school. At home. In life.

MARSHALL HISTORY

Marshall is the namesake of American jurists John Marshall and Thurgood Marshall.  John Marshall was appointed Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1801. He is considered the undisputed colossus of American constitutional law. Thurgoood Marshall was the first African American of the Supreme Court of the United States. As an attorney, he argued the historic case of Brown vs. the Board of Education of Topeka in which racial segregation in public schools was declared unconstitutional.
