The Memorial Tech Theatre Program is requesting that
teachers and students who wish to get rid of old
tools bring those old tools to the band room (136).
Tech Theatre is in need of saws, both electric and
hand, drills, drill bits, screws, nails, bolts,
washers, screw drivers, hammers, paint brushes,
paint trays, safety goggles, leather gloves, tool
boxes, essentially everything and anything you could
donate that would help build sets and work in
stagecraft activities.

The Big Blue Machine is honored to be one of only
two bands representing the Greater Tulsa Area at the
Grand Opening Day of the new BOK Center in downtown
Tulsa. They have been slated to perform this
Saturday, August 30th at 11:45 a.m. on
the main floor and will play a short set lasting 15
minutes. This is a huge honor for our band students
and we are so proud that they represent Memorial.
They will perform for as many as15,000 people just
that morning! We wish them the best of luck as they
help to christen Tulsa’s newest architectural
landmark!

Next Wednesday, September 3rd, is school
picture day. If you have not received your
introductory flyers, you English teachers have
them. If you are purchasing pictures, bring your
money, money order, or check made out to Lifetouch
with you on the day of the pictures. You can also
pay online at

Tonight is a big night for the Charger football team
as they go across town to take on BTW in the All
City Tournament. We play at 6:00 at SE Williams
stadium – come out and support our mighty football
team as we take the buzz out of the Hornets! Wear
your red, white, and blue and show your Charger
Pride!

Order your yearbook early for only $55. The Early
Bird Special runs until 9/15. Go to the Memorial
website and order your yearbook or see Mrs. Keblish
(208) to pick up an order form. Make checks out to
Josten’s and submit order forms to Mrs. Keblish or
Mrs. Koch (bookstore).

Seniors: Be sure to book an appointment with David
Kennedy for your senior pictures asap. Information
was sent out in the summer, but if you did not
receive it, see Mrs. Keblish, pick up a flyer in the
main office, or go to the MHS website. Get it done
so you can be in the yearbook!

In the future, the cafeteria will be serving shrimp
in the place of fish shapes. If you are allergic to
shellfish, avoid this menu item. If you do not know
if you’re allergic to shellfish and begin having
allergic reactions (rashes, trouble breathing, eye
or throat swelling) see the nurse, Ms. Post,
immediately.

Remember that tonight is Back to School night. Your
first hour teacher should have given you a paper to

Anyone interested in being Charlie the Charger this

The Business Professionals of America club will have
a short, informational meeting for those interested
in officer positions on Wednesday, August 27th
(tomorrow) at 8:30 in Mrs. Young’s room – 126.

Try outs for Pom began yesterday. Clinic is from
4-6 in the blue room. Friday will be the final try
out. See Mrs. Ward in the counseling office for

Thursday night is the all city football game –
Memorial plays BTW at 6:00 at BTW. Come out, wear
your Charger red, white, and blue and support our
football team!

Be sure to sign up in the counseling office to meet
with college reps as they come to Memorial this
fall. It’s never too early to start making plans.
Also the big College Fair at the fairgrounds is
Sept. 13-14. Hundreds of college reps will be there
to share information and answer questions.

history classes yesterday – be sure to return those
to her asap.

The College Visit sign-ups are in the counseling
office. So far, the following colleges and
universities have made appointments to come to
Memorial and talk to students: Texas Christian
University, Washington University (St. Louis), Tulsa
University (seniors only), College of the Holy
Cross, Southern Methodist University, and Pittsburg
State (Kansas). If you are interested in talking to
any of these representatives, go by the counseling
office and sign up. It’s important to find out as
much as you can to prepare for your future!

Also, OSU will offer the OSU EXPERIENCE on Sept. 6
and October 4th. The day will include an
OSU football game, on the spot admission
opportunities, walking tours of the residence halls
and campus, and other activities. Go to

Don’t forget that tomorrow night is back to school
night – your parents will have the opportunity to
meet all your teachers and see the school. They need

The Tulsa Rowing Club Juniors will be offering a
week long session for both male and female
beginners. The session will run Tuesday, September
2 through Friday, September 5 from 4:15 to 6:15 and
ends with a team building ropes course held at the
HelmZar Challenge Course on Saturday, Sept. 6. The
fee for the week of coaching, equipment and ropes
course is $120 which will be pro-rated towards the
rowing club membership fee if a participant decides

Congratulations to new MHS members of Youth
Leadership Tulsa! They are Matt Kennedy, Ellen

Hat Day is Friday. Buy your stickers today for
permission to wear the hats on Friday. You may buy
stickers in the cafeteria and before school in room
108 for $2.00. You must follow procedures that are
posted on posters throughout the school. You may
not wear a hat unless you have purchased a sticker.
Teachers will check ID’s for the stickers – hats may
not be worn in class.

Seniors – Please book an appointment with David
Kennedy as soon as possible to secure a time to have
pictures made. Information concerning senior
pictures for the yearbook was sent in the mail at
the beginning of the summer. If you did not receive
the information in the mail, go to the MHS website
more information, pick up a flyer in the main
office, or talk to a yearbook staff member. Thank
you to all of the seniors who have already booked
their appointments, and also thank you to all of the
seniors who have already had their pictures made.
David Kennedy told me that it was a real pleasure to
photograph the MHS seniors.

The boy’s and girl’s basketball team will behaving
physicals here from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Dr. Lance
Hightower has volunteered to give our students free
sports physicals. This will be taking place in the
girl’s basketball locker room. These physicals are
for the basketball team only. Please contract Coach
Hughes or Coach Savage with any questions.

Congratulations to Mrs. Coghill, chemistry
teacher, for being awarded a graduate
assistantship by the National Science Foundation
funded research program entitled, “Developing
Inquiry-based Instruction Skills”. The benefits
include a financial stipend as well as tuition
and fees for graduate credit. We are proud to
have Mrs. Coghill at Memorial!

T.O.O.L.S. Tulsa (Taking On Our Life Steps) is
presenting a black college tour, “An Initial
Investment in My Future.” This eight day tour
consists of visiting nine colleges across four
states, with a finale celebration in New
Orleans. If you are interested in being a part
of this opportunity, there is a meeting on
August 23rd (Saturday) at 12:00 noon
at Lacy Park – 2134 N. Madison Place. The
colleges that will be visited are: Tuskegee
University, Dillard University, Florida A&M
University, Xavier University of Louisiana,
Morehouse College, Spelman College, Alabama
State University, and Clark Atlanta University.
The trip will take place during spring break.

Oklahoma, after taking a year off from football.

Disciplinary procedures regarding dress code,
electronic devices (cell phones, etc.) and ID’s
will be in full force beginning today. You’ve
had a little ‘grace’ period to get readjusted to
school – now it’s time to make really good
choices.

Did you know that old cell phones and dead
batteries should not be thrown into the trash?
The heavy metals and electronics in cell phones
and batteries are environmentally damaging. IF
you have any old cell phones or dead batteries
please bring them to Mr. Beasley in room 109 for
proper disposal.
Teachers:
Please let Mr. Beasley know if you need a recycling
box in your room. AP Environmental students will
collect the paper every one to two weeks; however,
if you need it emptied before that time, the Abitibi
bin is in the north parking lot. MHS makes money
from Abitibi for recycling – help support a greener
environment and MHS at the same time.

The boys’ soccer team will host the final 08-09
season open tryouts this week – Wednesday
through Friday. Tryouts will be at 7:45 a.m.
and take place on the grass practice fields next
to the school. All players must be properly
equipped and are REQUIRED to attend all three
days. If you have questions, see Coach Reneau –
room 260 by Tuesday.

The first meeting of the Memorial Art Club is
Wednesday, September 3rd at 3:35 in room
153 (Mrs. Kokorich’s). This meeting is for old or
new members. It’s our first meeting which is mainly
to get acquainted with the art club and discuss
anything that we, as a club, would like to do . The
meeting should not last later than 4:30.

Today is the LAST day that students may sign up for
schedule changes. The sheets are on the counter in
the front office. You may sign up between classes or
at lunch. Teachers – do not allow students to leave
during class time to do this.\

Teachers – please check the phones in your room to
see if the ringers are off. It is VERY important –
safety wise – to be able to get in touch with each
classroom. Do not turn the ringers off.

crowned ‘Miss Grand Lake Outstanding Teen’. She will
compete next summer during the Miss Oklahoma Pageant
at the Mabee Center for Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding
Teen. She performed a soprano solo as part of the
competition and chose Autism Awareness as her
platform.

very smoothly. Thanks to all the faculty, staff, and

great start! It’s going to be an awesome year!

Congratulations to the Engineering Academy! Mrs.
Matheson received news last week that T.E.A.M. has
been selected to receive a five thousand dollar
grant from the Cox Connects Foundation. WE are one
of fifteen Tulsa-area schools to receive funding
from the 2008 Cox Connects Innovation in Education
grant program. This is wonderful news!

If you read a book this summer and would like to be
included in a drawing for an 8 gig Nano iPod, fill
out a book review form in the library or on the
library web page.

Remember that the parking lot spaces against the
building in the north parking lot are reserved and
may not be used by students. Use good judgment and
park your car in the student section.

The Tulsa City Council is still accepting
applications for the 08-09 class of Tulsa Youth
Councilors. Youth Councilors have the opportunity
to: work with the City Council on various youth
issues, advocate community involvement to Tulsa’s
youth, and gain a greater knowledge and appreciation
for governmental affairs through hands-on
experience. The ideal candidate will be strong in
both academic and extra-curricular activities, a
potential leader with creative problem-solving
skills, and have a desire to positively influence
both public policy and the image of Tulsa’s youth.

Congratulations to senior, Luci Crawford, for
representing Memorial in such an outstanding way by
participating as an intern at the Tulsa Municipal
Court. Out of fourteen applicants, only 4 were
chosen. These four were able to learn about many
facets of the court system by working in the areas
of Records, Warrants, Probation, and the Bailiff
section.

Remember to wear your ID every day. Upperclassmen –
if you need to buy another, the cost is $5. There
is no charge for freshmen and new students to
Memorial. ID’s can be made today in the Dean’s
office.

Remember to look at the Memorial Student Handbook
and the TPS Code of Student Conduct if you have
questions about procedures or dress codes at MHS. It
is every student’s responsibility to adhere to these
in order for us to have a safe, educational
environment.
