About the Academy

The Engineering Academy is a four-year college-preparatory program for students interested in pursuing technical careers.  The program meets all graduation requirements while offering exciting electives to prepare you to enter the most elite universities across the nation. 

School of Choice

The Engineering Academy is designated a “School of Choice” by the district (formerly called “magnet” programs).  Students interested in a particular School of Choice apply to that program for admission. 

Admission Requirements for 2007-2008

The admission requirements for students to enter the Academy in the 2007-2008 school year are:

§ Submit a completed application

§    The student has successfully taken Algebra I .

§   The student has a sincere interest in taking challenging courses to prepare for a technology-related degree and career field.

The Courses

All courses for the Engineering Academy are offered on campus at Memorial High School with highly qualified instructors.

All Academy students must take Introduction to Engineering and Engineering Design. They may elect to take up to three years of Robotics. Academy students must take AP or Pre-AP math and science courses every year for 4 years.

Memorial offers a wide array of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  The AP courses in math and science are: AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science B, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, and AP Biology.  Memorial also offers Pre-AP courses, including Pre-AP Geometry, Pre-AP Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Pre-AP Biology, and Pre-AP Chemistry.  Memorial also offers a full spectrum of AP and Pre-AP courses in English, Social Studies, and electives.

Academy students will take a minimum of two years of a foreign language and will have one elective each year to pursue additional interests such as JROTC, band, or athletics.
