Remington Elementary Center for Environmental Studies
Advisory Boards meets 1st Monday of each month
Progress to Date:
1. The city of Tulsa has constructed an outdoor shelter to be used for classes.
2. Purchased with bond money:
-Bird feeders erected to begin our bird sanctuary.
-Squirrel feeders have been placed outside of classroom windows.
-An inside water garden was stocked and set up in the
cafeteria
-Martin houses have been installed in the front of the
school.
-Trails have been laid with landscape timbers.
-Live animals are in the hallway and
classrooms.
3. Provided by Tulsa Public Schools:
-A mobile classroom used as office and
demonstrations
-Funding to hire a project director (through
Title 1 money)
-Labor to clear trails after tornado
4. Purchased through P.T.A.:
-Wildlife murals painted in cafeteria, halls and on
classroom doors
-Children’s gardening tools
5. A recycling program is in place. Bins are provided by the
Tulsa Zoo and Donhue Recycling Corporation.
6. Each grade level has a raised garden. The Master gardener
of OSU helped the children design and build the gardens.
7. Fish and Wildlife provided a $5,000 grant to restore a
wetland on school grounds.
8. We received a $25,000 EPA grant to provide an aviary,
aquariums, windmill, solar panels, and an assistant to the director as well
as various other items for the center and classrooms.
9. A grant from Vistion Corporation provided $10,000 to build
an arboretum with a water feature and flagstone walkway.
10. Each year a Nature Festival is held. Several agencies come
to school and give mini-presentations to our children.
