What is ACE - SB 1792?

ACE stands for Achieving Classroom Excellence

The intent of this legislation is to ensure that Oklahoma students have mastered essential core academic content and skills in order to prepare them for college or the world of work.

 

• ACE has become Oklahoma's answer to the No Child Left Behind legislation (NCLB) which was signed into law by President Bush on January 8, 2002.

NCLB redefined the federal role in K-12 education and will ideally help close the achievement gap between disadvantaged and minority students and their peers.  It is based on four basic principles:

• stronger accountability for results

• increased flexibility and local control

• expanded options for parents

• an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work

• ACE incorporates End of Instruction tests (EOI's) which are administered at the end of each course.
