Parents, by law, are responsible and accountable for their child's attendance. The Oklahoma Compulsory Education Act states that, “children may be excused from school because of illness, death in the family or a religious holiday." Parent must call the school office if your child will be absent for ANY REASON. State your child's name, grade, homeroom teacher and reason for the absence. A note from the parent is required when the child returns to school. A student who accumulates excessive absences may jeopardize his or her chance for advancement into the next grade. BREAKFAST: All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast for no charge. Breakfast begins promptly at 7:30 am each morning and ends at 7:50 am. CAR TRANSPORTATION: Parents must pick up and drop off at the front of the school between 7:30 am and 7:55 am. Students will wait after school with the teacher from 2:45 to 2:55 pm. Students will be brought to the assembly room at 2:55 pm to wait for transportation. Parents are strongly encouraged to pick up their child on time or arrange day care to do so. COMMUNITY CIRCLE: All students will be involved in a Community Circle time. This time is very important as the students build character and reflect on the day's leading activities. The Tribes program will be used to develop life skills. EARLY PICK-UPS: For safety/security reasons, parents must stop in the office when it becomes necessary for a child to be picked up early from school. The teacher will send the student to the office. The parent must sign the child out before leaving the building. If anyone other than the name on the child's card must pick up the child, please call the office or send a note with the child to give us clearance to let your child go home with them. Remember that your child's safety is very, very important. ILLNESSES: Children with temperatures of 100 or above should remain home until normal temperature has stabilized for 24 hours WITHOUT medication. If your child is vomiting, he or she needs to remain at home. INCLEMENT WEATHER: Our main goal at Roosevelt is to provide a safe environment. On bad weather days, all students will be seated in the assembly room with their teachers. Parents or siblings may pick up the student by coming to the assembly room with the teachers and taking them to the car. Bus student will be dismissed to the bus. Bus students include daycare, shelters and Tulsa Public School's busses. Finally, walkers will be allowed to walk home. MEDICATION DURING SCHOOL: Medication will be given to a student only with the written permission of either parent (if both have legal custody), or the student's parent or legal guardian. Prescription medicine must be in a currently dated prescription vial or labeled container, which correctly states the name of the patient, the name of the physician and directions for administration. All medications must be left in the health clinic. Medications, including cough drops, cannot be kept or carried in lunch boxes, pockets, purses or in school lockers. Any medication to be given to a child at school needs to be brought to the school by a designated adult. Oklahoma law provides that the school nurse, administrator or other designated school employee shall not be liable to the student, parent or guardian of the student for civil damages for any personal injuries to the student which result from acts or omissions of the school nurse, administrator or other designated school employee in administering any medicine pursuant to the provisions of the law except for acts or omissions constituting gross, willful or wonton negligence. MORNING ASSEMBLY: All students and staff join together to begin the day at 8:00 am in the assembly room. This is a special time to build character, learn about the day's activities and recognize student and staff accomplishments. TARDINESS: Students must be in class, ready to begin the school day by 8:00 am. When a student is tardy, a parental note explaining the tardiness should be given to the attendance clerk. A tardy slip is needed from attendance office in order to enter class. To help your student learn responsibility, we ask that the student take his or her tardy pass and report to class without parental assistance. A record is kept of all tardies. WEATHER ADVISORY: If your child is too sick to play outside, he or she is likely too sick to be in school that day. Roosevelt's playground policy allows for outside play time unless the temperature is 32 degrees or below, please dress your child accordingly. |
