Art Class Syllabus  



    The Art Curriculum at Thoreau Demonstration Academy allows students to experience all areas of the arts including history, language, experimenting with techniques and different media.  Students will explore clay sculpture, print and printmaking, painting, and computer generated graphics.  All explorations will be integrated with the core curriculum reinforcing the interrelationships of all subject areas.

Areas of evaluation:

Task Categories; Learning to Perceive, Learning the language, Learning about artist, Criticizing and judging art, and Learning to use art tools while building productive artistic abilities.__

Board work is 100 points

It is to be recorded in art spiral or assignment planner. (The assignment goals, objectives and vocabulary)

Activity/Production is 100 points

The student’s creative production based on the thematic unit and the utilization of design elements and principles. The student should demonstrate the skill to use tools and media effectively.

Data sheet Student evaluation and Vocabulary is 100 points

This written evaluation is to be turned in with each production.

Students are to complete a Q.A.R. Chart for assigned reading for 100 points.

The students are to list the elements used to create their composition, and identify media used. They are to discuss in sentence form how they use lines, shapes and whether implied or actual textures were used.

Homework:

Students can make sketches of television programs, resource materials such as books, films, and displays in malls and museums in the community. You and your child can discuss these. Ask your child to make sketches and drawing to be later used in a comp0leted production 50 points for each assignment. Any unfinished class drawing can be taken home to be completed as homework but no credit will be given.

Group Activities will receive from 50 to 500 points for oral presentation in the community circle along with the production of banners, murals, and stage props.

All class work should be completed on time. Most assignments will have a three-day time period, or a week at the most depending on the media. Students may turn in late productions with a loss of 15 points per day. The directions have been followed and the media is correct, and it must be turned in five days before the end of the quarter or semester.

SCALE 100-90 = A

89-80 = B

79-70 = C

69-60 = D

BELOW 60 = F

Discipline Procedures:

Discipline will be based on the four Tribes agreements. The first time, I will counsel with the student about the problem. Second time, I will counsel and parent will be contacted. Third time a summons will be issued and parent will be contacted.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss your child’s progress in art. I am sure that we will have a successful year and that you will enjoy participating with us in our art studies. Your child will receive 100 points for reviewing this form with you and returning it with your signature.
