The Model United Nations Club of Booker T. Washington High School is open to all BTW students. Its mission is to promote international awareness through study of the United Nations. Members engage in debates about global issues, promote education about pressing international questions in the BTW community, and participate in simulations of the politics of the United Nations. The chief officers of the Model UN are the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Duties of the President
1. The president keeps and maintains a phone list of all MUN members, and keeps in close touch with the secretary regarding MUN communications, and with the treasurer regarding fundraising.
2. The president supervises training and preparation for all MUN members. This includes monitoring their country research. The president draws up research questionnaires for his purpose
3. The president supervises all resolutions submitted by MUN members.
4. Before MUN conferences, the president works with the sponsor to ensure that all logisitical arrangements are covered.
5. During MUN conferences, the president assists members in developing strategies that are in keeping with their national interests.
6. The president conducts ongoing research into MUN events.
7. The president organizes country and team assignments for MUN events.
8. The president works closely with the teacher sponsor to ensure that MUN fulfills its club objectives.
9. The president works closely with the vice-president, and keeps the vice-president informed of activities.
10. The president may call meetings of the MUN club, and arrange them through the secretary. The president leads the meetings.
Duties of the Vice-President
1. The vice-president assists the president in carrying out MUN duties.
2. The vice-president serves as president in the president’s absence, or in the event of resignation.
3. The vice-president helps the secretary recruit new members.
4. The vice-president works with the treasurer in organizing fund-raising activities.
5. The vice-president works with the sponsor to resolve disputes between members.
6. The vice-president assists members in researching for MUN events.
7. The vice-president assists students in drafting resolutions.
8. The vice-president keeps copies of resolutions drafted for MUN events.
9. The vice-president works with the sponsor to organize the MUN end-of-the year party.
10. The vice-president works with the secretary and treasurer to handle MUN publicity.
Duties of the Secretary
1. The secretary keeps and maintains an e-mail list of all MUN members.
2. The secretary uses this list to notify all members of upcoming MUN meetings and events.
3. The secretary works with the president to contact members as needed.
4. The secretary conducts research into MUN events around the country.
5. The secretary writes reports about MUN events for the UN Association of Eastern Oklahoma newsletter.
6. The secretary works with the treasurer to organize fundraising activities.
7. The secretary sends messages to the members for the sponsor, and keeps the sponsor informed of all MUN activities.
8. The secretary keeps the MUN club’s records, including draft resolutions, research files and information on MUN events.
9. The secretary keeps in touch with other MUN clubs in Oklahoma and around the country.
10. The secretary serves as MUN president in the absence of the president or vice-president.
Duties of the Treasurer
1. The treasurer keeps track of all revenues raised by the MUN club.
2. The treasurer works with the secretary to keep members informed of fundraising efforts.
3. The treasurer develops fund-raising plans and signs students up for fund-raising activities.
4. The treasurer issues an award to the top fund-raiser at the end of the year.
5. The treasurer works with the sponsor to maintain the club booster fund
6. The treasurer works with the other officers to decide on MUN dues. Should MUN establish a dues requirement for membership, the treasurer collects the dues.
7. The treasurer keeps apprised of TPS rules for fundraising and for keeping booster clubs.
8. The treasurer compiles a revenue report for the president at the end of each semester.
9. The treasurer works with the vice-president and the secretary to develop MUN publicity.
10. The treasurer works with the sponsor to make sure that all MUN bills are paid.
