| Cowboys received a commitment
from TJ Smith, a good looking tight end prospect. |
The Wyoming Cowboys received a commitment from good looking tight end
earlier this week. T.J Smith, a 6 foot 3 and 220 pound prospect told the
Pokes he is interesting in continuing his playing career in Laramie.
Barry Lewis who writes for the Tulsa World and covers high school sports
had a glowing review of Smith.
"I think that Smith has outstanding college potential, he will be a real
steal as a tight end," he said. "I thought he would get more recruiting
attention than he did."
Smith played for one of the power of Oklahoma high school football in
Booker T Washington in Tulsa, a school that has produced a few NFL
players and several big time college stars in Robert Meachem, Felix
Jones, and RW McQuarters.
His teammate Shamiel Gary also committed to the Cowboys and both players
helped Washington compile a 13-1 record and winners of the 5A state
championship.
"T.J. Smith and Shamiel Gary were not the top players on Booker T
Washington state championship team," Lewis said. "but they were key
contributors."
The tight end was a two-year starter for the Hornets, catching 27 passes
for 444 yards and six touchdowns in 2008. In his two years, he had over
70 catches and a little more than 1,400 yards and 16 TDs.
Smith was impressed by new Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen's wide
open offense, a system a player with the tight ends receiving
capabilities can excel.
