**ROTARY CLUB OF NORTH TULSA ED LACY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  May 7 (Received)

Graduating seniors with a 3.0 GPA who are U.S. citizens and active participants in the high school athletic program may be eligible.  Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and attend Tulsa Public Schools.  Three recommendation forms, a transcript, and a short essay are required.
One boy and one girl will receive a $1000 award.

CALL ME MISTER SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  ASAP

African-American male students, who want to go to college out of state and become teachers, may be eligible to attend four years of college free!  Students must attend one of the following historically black colleges:  Clemson University, Benedict college, Claflin University, Morris College, or South Carolina State University.  Graduates would then fill positions in areas where a critical shortage of black male teachers exists, especially in
South Carolina.  Applicants provide a final H.S. transcript or GED certificate, submit two letters of recommendation, and write two essays entitled, “Why I Want to Teach” and “How the Call Me Mister Program Will Benefit Me”.  The award is a full ride scholarship.

 

IMAGINE AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP

Graduating seniors who plan to attend a career college such as Vatterott College or Tulsa Welding School may be eligible.  Applicants can receive a $1000 award to attend after admission to a participating career college.

 

NSU SCHOLARSHIPS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE OR MATHEMATICS

Graduating seniors planning to attend Northeastern State University with a major in Computer Science or Mathematics may be eligible.  Applicants must begin college
as a freshman in Fall 2008, demonstrate financial need, have a minimum 2.75/4.0 GPA,
and they must have U.S. citizenship.  The award is $8500/year renewable for four years.

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP

Collegebound seniors may be eligible for this book award from Rho Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta.  Applicants must demonstrate scholastic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and community service participation.  Requirements include a 7 semester transcript, two letters of recommendation (core teacher and community contact), and a one-page essay on your long and short term goals and why you would like to be considered for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office. The award is $250.00.

 

SCHOLASTIC SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST

High school juniors and seniors planning to attend college are eligible to apply.  Applicants are required to write a two-page essay (500-750 words) describing a situation in which they used financial management skills to achieve a significant goal.  Seventeen (17) prizes ranging from $200 to $15,000 will be awarded.  Download official rules and entry form at

NATIONAL NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH INITIATIVE

American Indian/Alaska Native high school students, aged 16-18, who have an interest in the health careers and/or biomedical research are encouraged to apply.  Selected students

DANIEL WEBSTER P.T.S.A. SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  April 25 (To Counselor)

Applicants for this community scholarship must have attended elementary or middle school in the Westside area of Tulsa Public Schools.  A brief letter explaining your reason for applying and your educational and career plans is required.  Applicants must also submit a 7-semester transcript.  The value of the award varies.

AYN RAND SCHOLARSHIP/ESSAY CONTESTS
Deadline:  March 20/April 25 (Postmarked)

All high school students are invited to enter this essay contest by reading either The Anthem (9th/10th) or The Fountainhead (11th/12th), novels by Ayn Rand.  Students must write a directed essay from 800 to 1600 words based on the reading.  Cash prizes range from $30 to 410,000.  Information and entry forms online:  www.aynrand.org/contests.

MERVIN BOVAIRD SCHOLARSHIP TO TU

The Mervin Bovaird Foundation will award one Webster student a scholarship to the University of Tulsa.  Applicants must be admissible to the University of Tulsa and demonstrate academic excellence as well as financial need.  The award is $3000
per semester for eight semesters.

METROPOLITAN URBAN LEAGUE GUILD ALVIN G. DAWSON SCHOLARSHIP

Graduating seniors planning to attend college full time who can demonstrate community service, honors, extracurricular involvement, and financial need may be eligible.  Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, a one-page essay and a 7-semester transcript.
The award is $1000.00.

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  April 25 (Received)  (Tulsa Alumnae Chapter)

Collegebound seniors who can demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, honors, and extracurricular activities may be eligible.  Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, a one-page essay, a 7-semester transcript, and a photograph.

TCC TULSA ACHIEVES PROGRAM
Deadline:  April 30 (Submitted to any TCC campus in person by 6 p.m.)

Collegebound seniors, graduating in May 2008, having attained a 2.0/4.0 GPA, and who are residents of Tulsa County may apply for 63 credit hours with tuition and fees paid while attending Tulsa Community College.  The applications must include the Tulsa Achieves Program Agreement form, a Tulsa Community College Admissions Application, and a 7-semester transcript.  This program also requires recipients to perform 40 hours volunteer service each academic year.  All application documents can be found at:  www.tulsacc.edu/tulsaachieves.

FREDDIE MARTIN RUDISILL SCHOLARSHIP

Any collegebound senior who resides in Tulsa or Tulsa Country is eligible to apply.
Applicants must submit a one-page essay explaining why they are applying.  In addition, a transcript and one letter of recommendation are required.  The award is $500.00.

 

DREAM INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP FOR DISABLED STUDENTS
Deadline:  May 1 (Postmarked)

The DREAM Institute scholar award is for students with physical and/or learning disabilities who are pursuing a higher education degree at a state college or university.  Full tuition and fees for full-time students are available as well as a $300/semester book allowance and a $500/semester living stipend.  Funding for tutoring and other special services is available.

CMA/OKLAHOMA PASTORS/NAACP SCHOLARSHIP

Collegebound seniors who are active church members and who can verify their college acceptance may be eligible.  Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular activities, as well as church and community involvement.  A statement of personal goals is required.  The award varies.

 

CAREER TECH TEACHER PREPARATION SCHOLARSHIP

Graduating seniors who plan to attend college and pursue a degree to become a certified CareerTech teacher/or working toward a CareerTech credential may be eligible.  Applicants must show evidence of enrollment in a college major that will lead to a CareerTech teaching certificate.  The award is $500.00.

 

SIGMA GAMMA RHO ANITA HAIRSTON SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  May 2 (Received)

Collegebound seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA (7 semesters) may be eligible.  Applicants must show high scholastic promise for the future and be committed to serving the school, church, and community.  A 250-word essay explaining why “you should be considered for this scholarship “ is required.  In addition, applicants must submit a 7-semester transcript and a recent photo.  The amount of the award varies.

 

 

 

 

TULSA AREA ALLIANCE OF BLACK SCHOOL EDUCATORS (TAABSE) SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  May 4 (Postmarked)

Graduating seniors attending a Tulsa Public School and planning to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school in the fall of 2008 may be eligible.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, show marked effort, improvement, or success, and demonstrate volunteerism/community involvement.  One $500 scholarship and five $500 gift certificates from Dillard’s Woodland Hills will be awarded.

 

TULSA RECONCILIATION (1921 RACE RIOT) SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  May 6 (To Counselor)

Tulsa Public School seniors who plan to attend an accredited Oklahoma college or post secondary Vocational Technical program may be eligible.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens and Tulsa residents (minimum 2 years).  Preference will be given to those applicants whose character and conduct contribute to greater communication and understanding between persons of diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, or economic backgrounds.  Two seniors from each TPS high school will be nominated.  The taxable family income must not exceed $70,000.  A copy of the parents’ 2007 tax return, a transcript, and a resume are required.  The award is
$1000.00.

 

BIG SUN ATHELETIC SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  June 20 (Received)

Collegebound seniors who are student athletes are eligible to apply.  All sports are eligible.
Applicants must submit a 500-word essay describing why you should be the winner of this award.  The award is $500.00.  Essay submissions should be sent to athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com.

 

OKLAHOMA’S PROMISE (OHLAP)
Deadline:  June 30 (Received)

High school freshmen and sophomores can earn free college tuition through Oklahoma’s Promise (OHLAP).  Applicants must currently be in the 9th or 10th grade, complete a specific 17-unit high school curriculum, graduate with a 2.5 GPA, and maintain good citizenship in the school and community.  For an application, see Ms. Murphy in the counseling office, call 1-800-858-1840, or apply online: www.okpromise.org.

TCC “BRIDGING THE GAP” EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline:  July 1

Graduating seniors who desire to work with children and earn an associate degree in Early Childhood Education may be eligible.  Applicants must have a minimum 2.5
GPA and plan to attend Tulsa Community College.  The purpose of these scholarships is to address the critical shortage of caregivers who have education and training in the area of infant/toddler development.  The award is full tuition, fees, and books to complete an associate degree in Early Childhood Education with a transfer option to the University of Oklahoma.
